Herbs That Work

When you use fertility herbs & vitamins, you should focus both on the male and female. Dr. Scott Roseff, Director of the WestEssexCenter for Advanced Reproductive Endocrinology found in one of his studies that “Up to 60% of infertile couples have difficulty conceiving due to abnormalities in the male’s sperm.”

The male should focus on the following:

*Getting rid of any abnormalities in the male’s sperm.

*Increasing sperm count in the male.

*Establishing proper testosterone levels.

Rather than fertility herbs for men, you will find better results by taking vitamins, or increasing daily food intake with foods very high in the following vitamins. (Be sure you talk to your doctor before beginning any vitamin or herbal regimen.)

Vitamin E – is essential for fertility. A lack of Vitamin E in males inhibits the formation of sex hormones which causes a decrease in the production of sperm. It also has a protective effect on (sperm) cell membranes & increases mobility of the sperm all creating a more fertile environment.

Recommended Dose: 400 IU daily.

Vitamin C – insufficiencies in Vitamin C in a male can create sperm agglutination (sperm cells clumping together). When sperm cells agglutinate, it reduces mobility of the sperm and they are much less likely to fertilize an egg. Increasing Vitamin C in a man’s diet has shown to be effective in reducing agglutination, thus increasing fertility.

Recommended Dose: 200 – 1000 milligrams daily

Selenium – can prevent oxidation of the sperm cell. A sperm cell that has been oxidized loses some electrons making it more likely to bond with things (like other sperm cells) that it should not. Sperm integrity is maintained when oxidation is prevented. Selenium can be found in red meat, liver, and seafood.

Recommended Dose: 70 micrograms daily

Zinc – activates sperm enzymes & assists testosterone. Lack of zinc lowers testosterone levels and is the cause of misshapen & unhealthy sperm as well as a low sperm count. It takes some time (up to 12 months) to restore the proper levels of zinc in a man, however at that time, the sperm should be quite healthy & at the proper count.

Recommended Dose: 15 milligrams daily w/ a full glass of water

Fertility herbs for the female should be focused on:

* Establishing normal hormonal functioning

* Nourishing & Toning the Uterus

* Reducing Stress and Relaxing the Nervous System

* Balancing Sexual Desire

Fertility herbs usually need to be taken for up to a year before seeing results; however, they are very effective & non-invasive. Be sure to talk to your doctor before starting any herbal regimen.

Red Clover Blossoms – are high in protein & vitamins. The calcium & magnesium that they are very high in are relaxing which promotes fertility. They can also balance hormones which also promotes fertility.

Recommended dose: Drink 1-4 cups of infusion daily

Infusion is made by filling a jar with clover blossoms then filling it with water, and letting it steep at room temperature for at least 24 hours. Clover blossoms can be gathered yourself or purchased.

Raspberry Leaf – is very effective when combined with red clover blossoms. It is high in calcium & is known for restoring uterine tone, thus increasing fertility.

Recommended dose: Drink 1-4 cups of infusion daily (can be added to Red Clover Blossom infusion)

Nettle Leaves – has high chlorophyll & mineral content. Chlorophyll increases oxygenation in the body increasing vigor and health. Nettle leaves are especially helpful for the hormonal system & also invigorate the uterus.

Recommended dose: Drink 1-4 cups of infusion daily

False Unicorn Root – invigorates the uterus and alkalinizes the ovaries, bladder, & kidneys, all improving fertility.

Recommended dose: 5-15 drops daily

Evening Primrose Oil – aids in the production of fertile quality cervical fluid. This fluid is essential for conception because it is the fluid sperm cells swim through to get to the egg. It also enables the sperm to stay alive for the normal time period in the female (up to 5 days) increasing the chances for conception. If you have severe PMS that is a good sign your body is low in the essential fatty acids evening primrose oil provides. Between taking the proper dose of evening primrose oil & drinking a lot of water, you should be able to increase your levels of fertile quality cervical fluid & thus increase fertility.

Recommended Dose: 1500-3000 mg daily from menstruation to ovulation only! Do not take it beyond ovulation as it encourages contractions in pregnancy. Also, be patient, it usually takes a month or two to produce any results.

Fertility herbs may take a little longer than other more invasive methods to increase fertility. But while you take them you are not just increasing fertility, but overall body health preparing for the new life inside of you.

Lastly, remember to treat all fertility herbs and vitamins just the same as you would any medicine & talk to your doctor or caretaker before starting any regimen. Also, if you have used something else that worked, leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you!
