Festival of India: Dhan Teras and Diwali
71Indian festival Diwali starts from Dhan Teras
Dhan Teras and Diwali are most auspicious and popular festival of India. Festival of Diwali lasts for five days starting from Dhan Teras. Dahn Teras fall on Kartik Krishna Trayodashi two days prior to Diwali. People from almost all casts and creed celebrate Diwali in India. Diwali is also known as Deepavali (Dipavali). It is festival of light.
Diwali is a Hindu festival as wel as a Sikh and Jain festival.
Dhan Teras is actually Dhanwantari Trayodashi. Dhanwantari was the father of Ayurveda. Dhan Teras is considered as his birth day. According to Hindu mythology, Dhanwantari was found in Samudra Manthan. This day had been celebrated as day of health.
Meaning of the day Dhan Teras had been changed during past centuries. The word Dhan was used as abbreviation of Dhanwantari and people started believing this day as day of Dhan meaning wealth.
People buy Gold, Silver, Diamond, color stones, Jewelry, Houses, shops and other real estate on this day. Dhan Teras is considered as auspicious as Akshay tritiya (Akha Teej) for buying immovable assets and gold, silver, diamond, Jewelry etc.
Akshay Tritiya is main shopping festival in south India and Dhan Teras is main shopping festival in northern part of India.
This day is considered as Abujh Muhurt that means very special and auspicious day according to astrology of India.

Jaipur celebrated Dhan teras: Festival of India
Jaipur celebrates all Indian festivals with great enthusiasm. Diwali of Jaipur is renowned globally. Thousands of foreign tourists visit Jaipur and enjoy Diwali every year. Large numbers of Indian tourists also come to Jaipur to enjoy Diwali.
Johri Bazar means Jewelry market. This is the main market for shopping on Dhan Teras. Johari Bazar Vyapar mandal (Traders association of Johari Bazar) decorate this market especially for entire Diwali festival.
Huge crowd come to shop and visit decoration of Johari Bazar. I have shooted some beautiful photos of Johri Bazar on Dhan Teras, tonight. I have taken these pictures willfully at late night to avoid crowd.
Johri Bazar, Jaipur looks like a bride with make up tonight. It is dazzling with light. I have deliberately kept my camera in day mood to keep photos faded.
