Viruses are seen with an eye of danger all over the world by techies. Now this article is primarily intended to differentiate the myths associated with computer viruses from the facts which are even associated with them.

One of the common phenomenon associated with viruses are that they remain hidden in the PC without being detected by the antivirus software for a long time. This gives the virus ample time to modify itself as well as the program files associated with the PC. This is usually accomplished by the malware by hiding at inaccessible memory areas or masking itself as a genuine process. They remain hidden until they are evoked. Worms should not be confused with viruses. They are known to spread quickly and the speed at which it spreads cannot be controlled and hence proves to be destructive.

Some of the viruses and spywares are known to display pornographic content in the displays of unsuspecting users. They are known to eat up your precious hard disk space as well the CPU/memory cycles which needs to be used for other genuine processes. Some are scripted so as to delete the data as well to capture the data being input in an infected to a secure undisclosed location. Financial information as well as family information are at stake without the implementation of a good AV software.

Identity thefts are the fastest growing malice in the current generation. Spywares are usually employed for the purpose. Make sure to invest on a good anti spyware software to ward these off. Most of the viruses are known to act on the System 32 folder which contains some of the essential executables and .dll files required for the normal running of the computer. And the most horrifying of it is that such info can be easily found in the internet, provided you known how to fish it out.

Dear Shalini, I have 6 blogs. No one to help or teach me how to use them. If you have any interest on saving orphan bloggers like me, just visit and instruct something. May God bless you

I recently got a virus and my bank confirmed some unauthorized log in attempts which were NOT where I was located.

Isn't interesting the Windows OS works so much better for viruses than it does for paid for applications. If the Microsoft OS was written by the hackers and the virus generating people the OS would be a lot better.

Unix has a far better method of protecting the OS and its Kernel.

Microsoft still hasn't done much better than the CPM OS they bought an used and hardly improved upon.

Microsoft is the PC version of the IBM mentality. Neither of them produce quality products and their code looks like it is written by the proverbial infinite monkey at infinite terminals.

I should change to Apple but their problem is they charge too much.

Thanks for the venting
