Fiction - Some Of My Favorite Books
61
I’ve put my love of food out there and I think it may be time for me to move on to another of my interests (or rather, obsession) – books.
Now, I never really did read much as a child or young teenager – I was always too busy and found it more of a chore than a pleasure.
Well, that all changed when I got my first job. I was about 17 years old and was working at a local drug store/pharmacy. The store sold paperback books as well.
I happened to be there one morning when the gentleman came in to replace the older paperbacks with new ones. I had seen him rip off the front cover of each, put it aside and then toss each book into a box. Curious, I had gone over to him and asked him what was going to happen to all the books without covers. He responded that they would be thrown out as he only needed the front cover in order to get credit for the book. He said I could take whatever I wanted out of the box. I figured - what the hell – maybe I’d find something interesting.
This was the beginning of a wonderful relationship, that has spanned 2 decades and continues today. Once I picked up the first book, I was hooked. Every month when he came in, I d get about another 10-20 books. It was great! I had hit the mother load!
Over the numerous years I have read too many books to even try to count – all genres. However, I do prefer fiction (almost any kind) to nonfiction.
Below I have included some of my favorite fiction books. Each is a series with multiple books. I have read each book (in each series) more than once. These are also some of my husband’s favorites too. He didn’t get into reading until he was 31 and now reads more than I do. I happen to think he got the better end of the deal that way. He got to read all the books consecutively, one right after the other, where as I had to wait sometimes years to read the next book in the series.
If you haven’t read them, I highly recommend them:

The Ninja – Written by Eric Lustbader
The Martial traditions of Japan find their highest expression in the Samurai – the noble warrior. But these traditions have a darker side in the cult of the Ninja – remorseless assassins who believe in drugs and magic, and know a thousand stealthy ways to kill a man. A powerful novel of passion and revenge that takes us into the deadly secret world of ninjutsu, not only in postwar Japan but in New York as well.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy when the World and Time themselves hang in the balance, a wind rises in the mountains of mist…

Thank you Storytellersrus! A while back, I worked in a used book store and Ursula LeGuin was very popular with our customers. I will have to check the authors out & find some new reading material for my hubby & me to read. We go through books at an alarming rate :-)
I am reading Wilbur Smith's "River God" and I love it!
I've got the other 3 books of this Egyptian series lined up on my shelf to be read!
Thanks Perle. I loved the book as well. I love all the characters in the book but I thought that Taita was one of the most interesting and well written characters I've ever come across. Wait until you read the second book - I won't spoil it for you but you really come to appreciate Taita's knowledge and cunning in this one. Wilbur Smith really knows how to write. Let me know how you liked the second, I'll be waiting to hear :-)
I really enjoyed reading your article. I love books and love people who love books. My daughter and I love to read books (not big on magazines) whereas my son mostly reads magazines.
I am new to blogging and article writing (just started in August). You responded to my Janet Evanovich article and I would appreciate any helpful tips you may have.
Keep up the good work girl!
Much thanks Alovelyliz. I'm not too big on the mags either. Too much advertising, not enough worth reading. That's funny though - my son prefers them to books too - must be a "boy" thing. Appreciate you stopping by. Rock on!!!

I love YA! Have only read Clan of the Cave Bear on your list... oh dear. I just finished The Hunting Game by Suzanne Collins and am beginning to reread The Telling by LeGuin.
