Fighting Like Cats and Dogs

Fighting like cats and dogs. That sure is a saying that has been around since moby was a minnow(opps, that`s another one).It usually means that the fight is a knock em down, drag em out scuffle.I have never actually seen a fight between a dog and a cat.In my experience when a dog meets a cat it seems more inclined to play than fight. It usually goes into play mode by lowering its front half and raising its back half.It seems to be saying:"aw come on let`s play, its more fun than fighting".

A dog and a cat in the same household is a different kettle of fish.Usually they can get along famously especially if the dog is much bigger than the cat.In my household there is one cat and one golden retriever who is, of course, much bigger. They are both about the same age, around seven years, and interestingly enough almost the same color. The cat,K.C.by name, simply adores her golden retriever buddy, chancey by name.K.C. seems to look up to the dog as a combination, big brother, protector and pillow.Chancey, on the other hand, tolerates the cat simply because they share living space. They share plates of table scraps as well as dog food.Chancey will actually lie on the floor and wait til K.C. has his fill of her dog food.

It is really a difficult situation to understand. One species enjoys being with other creatures, while one seems to prefer to be alone, yet somehow they make it work.Good ole me,the human is just kept around to open the door and stay out of the way.

I do think that it's funny that people use the saying in terms of a bad thing. But in many homes the cats and dogs get along and play together just fine. In my house it's a matter of fighting like dogs and puppies. Ugh... My pup doesn't understand ugly growls that or she just doesn't care and is constantly stirring up trouble with the older dogs.
