File Your Own Taxes
53It's a long time until April of 2010, but why don't you begin thinking about a money saving tip to file your own income tax returns now? You can do some great training on line at various sites.
I figured out a long time ago, that if you have a short form to file, it is certainly very easy to file your own taxes and for FREE! Don't pay someone to do it! Give it a try yourself. I found that if you do make a mistake, the people who read them will make the correction and send you a notice.. You don't get into any trouble and it's still FREE.
For many years now I have helped several family members file their income taxes. Especially the young teens who have part time jobs.....they most always need to file only a simple form. I have also filed complex, long forms, itemized forms......all with the help of the Turbo Tax web site. Most of the time, you don't even need them.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not a professional tax consultant, but it's just something I've learned over the years. I see people paying out alot of money to have a simple 1040A form filled out and it's just crazy. You can do it yourself and save money. I can even make money by filing for others.
Give it a try for next year. I suggest you make a list on your computer of things you think you might be able to use in an itemized deduction list now. Save all receipts! You never know which ones may save you money, and if you spend more than the average person, you can deduct all the sales tax you paid for the items you bought.
Check out websites such as irs.gov and your state tax form site. Do a search through Google or Yahoo and they are easy to find. And if that fails, contact me, a novice for sure, but willing to help whomever I can to do their own thing and save some money in this towering economy.
Good Luck!
