The Best and Worst Films of 2004
57For the next 28 Days we will be counting back one year at a time Films from the years 2007-1980!
Same non-rules as yesterday which were:
The incomplete list promotes more feedback for three reasons:
1) You guys can save me the trouble of seeing films like The Manchurian Candidate which you're welcome to defend, if you dare. If something is listed on the bottom as still need to see and enough of you say it sucks, then you guys decide where it goes at the bottom of the list, I got better things to do.
2) You can recommend the next film I see. I'll publish all you're suggestions as long as you don't spoil the plot. Feel free to gimme your favorite quotes or scenes to the ones I have ranked or argue the validity of said rankings.
3) Most important though is you'll be able to come back later knowing that the list will have been updated since I watch 2 films a day if I can. (One during bagels at breakfast and one after dinner since the writer's strike.)
>>>>>NOTE>>>>> The films in italics are the ones I actually found entertaining. My favorites will have an *

sideways was funny and a great idea for a movie. a buddy movie on the road has been done a million times from the days of the "on the road to..." series with bing crosby and bob hope. but, none were as funny and cleverly written as this adaptation of rex pickett's novel. you know you have written a good book when they finish the movie of it in the same calendar year. paul giamatti shows how terrific and awkward he can really be.
garden state is one of my favorite films. a near-perfect script penned by scrubs star, zach braff, and great performances by braff, peter sarsgaard and my favorite actress natalie portman. she had me at "my whole family is dead" in the professional (leon). and she gives such a believable performance as a compulsive liar. great film - funny and sad and clever and real.
The Machinist is a great movie. I do have to check out the United States of Leland, for some reason that name rings a bell but I don't think I have ever seen it. I think its one of those movies I saw a preview for but forgot to write it down and never watched it. Collateral and Anchorman were two others I loved from '04 (and of course Primer)

I didn't love SIDEWAYS the way I thought I would based on the hype. The person I came away impressed after watching it was Virginia Madsen.
Giamatti is a GREAT actor. GS script was great for me too.
jormins I have the machinist in my house right now. I'm dying...Huge fan of Bale's since Empire of the Sun when he was the little boy that Spielberg found.
THE UNITED STATES OF LELAND has the following cast.
Ryan Gosling and Don Cheadle Leads. Interested yet?
supporting roles by stalwarts Kevin Spacey & Martin Donovan
kids played by Jena Malone and Chris Klein
CHECK IT tf out! Especially you Donnie Darko lovers. Do it now!
Okay...this needs revision and photos
