Warner Bros confirmed today that they will produce the final Harry Potter book in two parts. The producer David Heyman said it will be impossible for them to produce the 608 pages book in a single movie.

This rumor of splitting the final Harry Potter book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows” into two movies has been there for quiet some time, even JK Rowling admitted it is impossible to take them in one long movie.

David Heyman, the producer for this movie, told Los Angeles Times it is difficult to take the book in one movie without neglecting key elements in the book. Fans would be disappointed if key scenes are not produced in the movie.

Warner Bros agreed and Jeff Robinov, president of Warner Bros said this in a statement that the split release was "the best way to do the book, and its many fans, justice".

Daniel Radcliffe, the actor portraying Harry Potter, also spoke with Los Angeles and concurred with Warner Bros decision. He told LA Times:

There have been compartmentalized subplots in the other books that have made them easier to cut - although those cuts were still to the horror of some fans…The seventh book doesn't really have any subplots. It's one driving, pounding story from the word go."

The first five movies have made $4.5 billion (£2.2 billion) worldwide - making it the biggest film franchise in box office history, surpassing both James Bond and Star Wars. With the three new movies in the future, it will earn even more and will be a tough record to break for other movie franchises.

Currently Warner Bros is producing the sixth chapter in the series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price since last September. The movie is directed by David Yates, who will also be in charge of final two movies, which is slated to be released in autumn 2010 and summer 2011 respectively.

Thank God they are splitting the 7th Harry Potter book into two movies... I have read all the books and was wondering what they were going to cut. As a fan, I would way rather watch two movies than lose any of this fantastic story.

I agree Cindy, otherwise it will lose its flavor.

I'm sure the extra revenue the studio is going to make off the split didn't weigh on their decision much. . . they wouldn't want to slaughter that cash cow too soon right? Hey I'll go see them. My kid was 5 when he started making me go to the Harry Potter movies and he'll be 15 when the series is finally over.
