Corporate America Is It What It Used To Be?

Let me ask the reader, are you truly ready for tomorrow? That's a question we all need to ask ourselves because there is no guarantee who will have a job tomorrow. Its kind of crazy we have to give that a thought, but today we do. For some reason, job security isn't there anymore.

If you think about it, today isn't the same as it was in the 70's, 80', or even 90's. Normally, we are told as kids to get an education, then get a job in corporate america based on that education. With that education, you are almost promised to have that job for a lifetime or until retirement.

Can you relate? If so, please read and learn the message behind the story.

O.K. I graduated from college with a bachelors degree in computer information systems. With that degree, I was able to get a job in corporate america. As years passed, I presented my talents and I was able to get a couple of promotions. You know, things were going really well. I had the mentality, that I would or could have this job for a lifetime. I really didn't prepare for tomorrow. Although, I was always raised to be ready for tomorrow. But at some point in my life, I strayed away from that concept. I was basically going with the flow of life. I was enjoying my life.

Then, guess what?

Part of the company was bought out. Within a year, the new company with the newly acquired employees began downsizing.

If you can follow, continue Reading:

I was truly surprised because I never thought it would happen. I had the mentality that my parents instilled into me as a young kid. You get the job once, and you will have the job for a lifetime. It kinda, sounds like the MLM industry. You do something once and won't have to do it again.

Anyway,

But, now sitting on the outside looking in, I ask the question "Why". Why do we go through the process of getting a J. O. B.(just over broke) in corporate america when we can become our own boss. Remember when I spoke of education, an education being part of the ticket to corporate america. Why can't we see educating ourselves today and becoming that conglomerate business owner. Why do we figure we have to work for someone else.

I just don't understand. We spend so much time and money on school, educating ourselves just to be let down later in life.

So, I ask again, "Are you ready for Tomorrow?"

As a entrepreneur now, I really understand what needs to be done. With a different mindset, I'm truly able to see corporate america for what it really is. Corporate america is truly about me me me. It's not for the average individual.

I don't see corporate america in the spirit of giving or helping because I have seen so many people who have lost their job. They have worked their entire life to loose it all in mere seconds because of corporate decision. For example, have you heard of the latest crisis in the financial market. The Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and AIG, just to name few, has went belly up because of a bad corporate decision.

Now let me ask you the reader another question, how does a 158 year company go into bankruptcy? How does the leading wealth management, capital market and advisory company get bought buy another bank? And how does a fortune 500 company get in-tangle amongst the web?

You know this is a true tragedy. Not only is the company in disarray itself, but, remember all the employees who walked into work only to find out the news. The news being an unknown future for the employees.

Honestly, it's truly sad.

So in my opinion, I believe we should have education as our core basis for success. And have the mindset that corporate america isn't always the ticket. We should have the idea, we can work for ourselves and help others do the same. Basically we should create our own financial security. We shouldn't live pay check to check.

So I ask you the reader, if you are in corporate america, make sure you have a backup plan just in case you walk into work one morning and it isn't there anymore.

I encourage you to find your niche and educate yourself because corporate america isn't.......

Create and Build your OWN EMPIRE and help others'.

You may believe that you aren't capable of building your own empire, but I beg to differ. If you're an individual that has a clear vision, you are wiling to work and you are willing to follow instructions, you can write your own ticket. You just have to find the right mentor. Keep in mind, while searching for that mentor don't break the bank.

In the words of Kofi Annan, "To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there. "

If your an individual who has found yourself spinning your wheels with your business or you don't know how to begin, come to the marketingcoaches Resource Home and learn how to put your spinning wheels into the journey of your blueprint. And also make sure you pick a copy of the blueprint, so you can stay informed.

Hi Donna. I couldn't agree with you more - great hub!

Not everyone is cut out to go into business for themselves and that's fine - employees are still needed everywhere, and many people enjoy working for somebody else.

But for those who are inspired to go into business for themselves, I say, "go for it".

The boom in work from home opportunity seekers proves that more and more people are either struggling financially and looking for extra money to survive, or are sick of trading their time/life for money and making others rich in the process, and can see the "big picture" of what life is all about.

Nice article Donna and you are right, working outside the home and for another company/person has it's risk but home base businesses are not for all of us and I am proud to know that you have gained from your experiences. Very well written and informative article.

Corporate America has never been a friend of mine. When I go t tired of making someone else rich while I was ignored, stomped on, and spit out - I started my own business and have never looked back.

Donna,

This is a fantastic usage of "leveraging the news" to connect a solution to the needs and concerns for a target market. Your understanding and application of attraction marketing is very evident in your content and I'd say that people looking for a guide in marketing their business would be quite lucky to find you.

Keep up the great work! I'll be sharing this as an example with thousands of people--well done.

Great Hub Donna and well written. Glad to see that you are one of us who have discovered what more and more people are seeing in today's world.

I was talking with a group of business owners about this one day and why some people don't consider starting up their own business. We all came to the conclusion that when we are enjoying a cruise, someone needs to be there to serve us the drinks!

Glad to see you are on top of things and people will do well with you as their guide.

Hi Donna,

Your points are very well taken. How on earth does a bank go bankrupt? I was asking my husband (a financial planner) that very same question this morning. Some people made some poor decisions it would appear.

So much has changed in recent years and there's no such thing as job security because businesses have their ups and downs like all of us.

We all have choices and becoming an entrepreneur is an adventure and full of promises for those adventurous souls who want to be in more control of their financial future.

Well done using the news in your hubpage.

Hi Donna,

You definately hit the nail on the head. This is a prime example of why Home Business, Network Marketing, Internet Marketing and Small Business pop up everyday. People are searching for ways to not only secure their financial future, but make a difference in thier lives and the lives of people around them.

I too fell victum to corporate downsizing several years ago, it's not fun, it's scary, but it was the most positive thing in my life. It got me thinking and looking for a better way.

Keep up the great work,

Mike Witt

I can really relate to your story. I have seen many of the same situations as you describe. I found that the only thing you really have any hope of controlling is how you spend your life, how much you help others, and how thankful you are for your blessings.

The one thing you have no real control over is what your company does with you or to you. To them, you are only an asset that they think of as property (which they often manipulate as if you are on a chess board). I've found that, if you want to take back control of your life and what happens to you, to where you control when you work, who you work with, how and where you work, and to where you have it all based on your own efforts and working smart, the only answer is to be in business for yourself; but working with the right vehicle, of course. I also have found that the right vehicle is working with Marketing Merge and Mike Klingler. Thank you Donna, for this great report.

Roylan  says:

This is a very well written article. I like the way you tied it into today's news. I was in a similar situation working for a book publishing company as a computer programmer and the company was sold and almost all of us were terminated. That left me very insecure as far as jobs went. Did find another and retired after 20 years with them. But now, like you, have the opportunity to become an entrepreneur and help others. Thank you for sharing your insight with us.

Hi Donna,

I found this article after Mike Klingler sent it out to his email list. This is great. Actually, I'm experiencing this right now with my husbands job. They have no appreciating for him and they just don't care if he stays or leaves. There are no benefits and no vacations. The only reason he stays is for the pay.....right now. I'm working hard with my home based business and soon he can kiss that job good by.

I'm lucky to work at home, but realize that I'm only as good as my next hairdo. That and if I get hurt, I can't work. No work, no pay. I needed a back up plan and network marketing was it for me. I do this part time and build my financial future.

Thanks for all the tips you have made here.

Donna, this is a great article. I had a job in the corporate world once, but had to give it up due to a move years ago. I live in a small town in Wisconsin and for many years have had to work 2 or 3 seasonal jobs just to 'get by'. I work VERY hard during the summer, scrambling from here to there, always wondering how I'll make it through our slower winters here. My friends and family keep telling me to go work for another big company (which for me means a 1 1/2 hour drive to anywhere). With the price of gas these days, who can afford to do this?

Recently I ran across Marketing Merge and attraction marketing. This totally makes sense and I'm working on positioning myself here on the Internet by writing articles and educating myself.

Keep up the great articles!

Wow, all I can say is really great content and I am sure you will inspire people who are looking for solutions. I like how you emphasized to "build your own empire". Be in control. I can also relate to being laid off. You were also right on with the way corporate culture really is. I've seen it turn good people into "other people".

Terrific article Donna! I was 'downsized' in 1999 and although it was a blessing in disguise it did not feel that way at the time! I wonder how many stories we have to read about other people losing their jobs before we get that we need to 'dig the well before we need it'? Downsizing is just one of many reasons you could find yourself with no income overnight. More and more people are having health issues, car accidents happen etc. Or we find ourselves suddenly in a position of supporting elderly parents or our children move back home; the reasons go on and on.

People are looking for purpose in their lives and that comes with helping others. Many don't realize that their story could be the catalyst to inspire someone to take action. Their story combined with a solution like you suggest is the perfect formula.

To your $uccess,

Irene Kirkman

Great post, Donna!  I grew up with the mindset of getting an education in the hopes of going to work for a "solid company" ~ but that phrase has sure become an oxymoron!  I have to admit that my husband and I have always encouraged our kids to go to college as a way of "getting ahead", too, but I just hope they catch my vision of working for themselves to build a solid future.  JUST being your own boss doesn't always work, however ~ my husband's been self-employed in construction for over 25 years and that industry is falling apart.  You gotta have passion ~ but you gotta find a profitable niche as well!!

Thanks for the word, and the link ;-)

Very well written article with timely relevent information. Having multiple income streams, or at least a 'back up plan' as you mention is so important to all the challenges in life, not just job downsizing.

I am a recent single mom and because of the income I have built from home with the power of the internet, I am able to take care of my three children, continue to homeschool and keep a consistency and stability in their lives. This transition could have been a lot harder on us had it not been for my home business.

Thanks for sharing information to help empower people!

Donna, excellent article...

I too was downsized, and it was a horrible feeling. I at the time, had an MLM business I was working part time. When my son, (14 then) learned why I was home so early, his response was: "that's great, Mom...now you can do your business full time just as you always wanted."

Well, that's what I did, and never went back to work for someone else. It's very important in today's world for those working for others to have a Plan B. Keep up the good work!
