Find Love On Hubpages - Things Match.com Could Learn From Hubpages
66I am not promoting Hubpages as an online dating site, but if you think about it, you would see how Hubpages.com could be a very successful one. Members of Hubpages form part of an ideal online community in which thoughts are exchanged, pictures are shared, advice is given, help is granted, and a hand is extended. Day after day members are getting to know each other word by word.
Hubpages promotes a relaxed, social environment where members (hubbers) have witnessed compliments posted here and there, fans appearing left and right, even little "couple quarrels" in the forum area.
It is not something new that within communities friendships are created, partnerships begin, and relationships flourish. Hubpages as such is well on its way to promoting these interactions. Do not be surprised if "love" appears here or there amongst single hubbers. Really, it could all just start with a thumbs up.
Hubpages is not a weird and impossible place to find love, in fact there are quite a few things that Hubpages does absolutely right to enable this to happen without even trying. Match.com should take a close look and implement some of these in order to allow a more relaxed ambiance for its ultimate purpose of finding love for its members.
Love Lives In Strange Places
There is no need to use NASA technology to send the profile information to space, line it up with the stars and the moon and bring it back to earth to find the best options for a perfect match. Here on Hubpages, while people join freely to write, they encounter several other writers and therefore pieces of writing (hubs) that are breath taking.
Some hubs are just so mind blowing, that it is impossible to not want to find out more about whomever wrote it. So, writing and reading, people are meeting people and "love connections" are possibly being made.
I met my husband on match.com (not on Hubpages, but it could have been!!) and if only some of the Hubpages background had been implemented on the dating site, probably I would have learned more about him and our cultural differences (as he is American and I am Colombian).
This is what I mean:
1. "Truthful Profiles Kept Visible To Public": match.com urges its members to write TRUTHFUL profiles and to keep them public (they can chose to hide the profiles as desired). And so, what do you think is going to happen when people are asked (as a must) to reveal information about themselves which they really are not comfortable sharing??? Well of course they will lie. All because not everyone is willing to describe their physical appearance, or how much they eat or drink.
Hubpages.com allows you to write the profile you want, and so in most cases it is truthful. It may not have all the information you would like to know, but then you would not have something to look forward to while finding out the rest. Even a blank profile can tell you a lot about people, don't you think??
2. You Are Able To Read Between The Lines: if you are not content with the information posted on the profile page, then simply read some of that person's hubs, as they provide an accurate insight onto the real person behind the picture and the profile. Just pick a person and read their profile, then take the time to read some of their hubs...Which one told you more about the person???
3. Become A Fan, Post A Comment, Leave Fan Mail: it is not possible to wink on Hubpages, or use some of those other date-site gadgets that help when you want to reach out. But how about posting intriguing comments on hubs, become a fan, take an extra step and leave some fan mail. Really, if I was not a married woman, some of those fan mails that I have read on other people's profiles would have surely gotten me interested. I mean, there are some awesome compliments out there...girls being called princesses and queens....Gosh, it really is hard to find those guys now a days...and it is all coming from their true selves, not because they feel they have to pay a compliment to get a date or a response.
4. Request A Hub: if you are just dying to know more, but can't quite figure out how to go about it, then Request a Hub from the person. The majority of the times these personal requests are answered. Make sure you don't waste this opportunity though. Don't be requesting ridiculous hubs that will just get you flagged. Chose wisely to learn!!!
5. No Imposing Rules Of Initiating Communications With At Least 5 Members A Month: this is another must on dating sites. I bet they can't believe that it is done naturally and willingly on Hubpages, and way more that 5 times a month. Think about how many comments you have gotten and posted...there you go!!!
6. Easier To Know Real Singles: since the profiles are more honest, written with guards down, not thinking on impressing people in order to get dates, then no one out there who is married is pretending not to be (I think). Therefore, singles know real singles for sure.
Oh, and a great aspect that many people look for when they first want to try out a site.... Its Free!!!
Some Great Hubbers
Still Not Sure About The Power Of Hubpages As A Place To Find Love??
Please remember that the purpose of Hubpages is not match-finding. But within its purpose of creating a nice atmosphere for writing and publishing, it also generates possibilities for "meet-ups". And hey, couples have met in more strange and precarious conditions, so why not here??
I think, if you love writing and sharing your writing, and earn some extra cash while you are at it, then why not try it out. Now if you are also single and love doing all of the above as well, even better!!! You just might meet that someone you've been looking for everywhere else.
Then again, as I always say...you have to be open minded and creative.

Hi,
Really interesting hub!
Another great reason for people to join Hubpages and hub away merrily! Though I must admit that opportunity is denied to me since I am already married!
Interesting argument, well written!
Joe, thanks for the comment...hilarious as are your hubs!!
Sidd & Tom, Thanks for the comments!!!
HubPages is a very neat venue for meeting new people. Since I've been here, I'm happy to say I've made four wonderful new friends, three who remain "online" friends, and the other, now a face-to-face friend. We found each other through comments and "reading between the lines", as you describe.
Although these are not potential love relationships, I think the way we found each other is much the way singles would like to meet, ideally...through sharing thoughts, experiences, backgrounds, dreams, wishes, and everything else in an open, friendly, and unthreatening community (except for the forums here, of course ;) ), sort of like church, or school, or a neighbor's house, where the focus is on interests first, the love match second.
At match.com and other sites like it, the only focus is on attracting a love partner. But hasn't it been said: friends first, lovers later? HP does promote friendship by virtue of what it is.
I like your thought a lot. Thumbs up.
Sally's Trove, Thank you for your comment. I completely agree with you about finding and making friends first...you end up gaining a lot more!!!

Good idea. People could get matched up through Hubpages and then if it doesn't work out, they could get divorced in the forums:) Nice hub.
