Dog Handler
Dog Handlers for Police force
What could be better than training one of these fantastic dogs. They do such a wonderful job. You would need to be in either the police force or the army to do this.
Local Pet Shop
You could obtain a casual job working for your local pet shop. Offer to do this on a voluntary basis to start, especially for school leavers. You will meet all types of people and learn how to handle a variety of pets and their care.
Veterinary assistant or receptionist
Ask for casual employment to get you in the door, this could start you off on a full time career. You may start by cleaning out the cages, and move up from there, with the correct training you could become a vet technician.
Dog Walking or Exerciser
Anyone can earn money by taking their neighbors dogs for a walk each day to the park. Pensioners would really appreciate their dogs taken for their daily exercise, especially when they are unable to do it themselves.
This will give you exercise,s and get you out into the fresh air and bright sunshine. What more could anyone want?
You can also earn money caring for animals while people are away at Christmas and holidays
Why not make this your choice for starting a small home business?
Work with livestock as veterinarian
Dog Beauty Salons
Grooming is a very necessary part of owning a dog and a good way to start a small business. Many dogs like Shu-zitzu's and Poodles need regular grooming. Since the advent of unemployment, more ideas are evolving all the time, like dog washing. You could combine the two, and offer nail clipping and flea treatment services.
Pet Photography
If you are good with the camera and have a computer and printer, then why not print up some business cards. Print a small advert with your photography services available and pin it on the local notice boards. Customers will come flocking, well in time they should if you look after your customers. Offer a discount for referrals.
Pet Sitting
Offer to look after people's pets and gardens while the owners go away for holidays. The main thing is to be reliable, never forget to turn the sprinklers on or feed the cat or dog and remember to fill up the bird feeders and give fresh water daily. This will not help your new home business if you lose one of the pets.
Boarding Kennels
This is another way to enjoy working with animals. You get to exercise and play with dogs or cats depending on the type of kennel. Most kennels have boarding facilities while the owner is away on holidays. Others offer day care services. You will need to do some training in these cases on how to manage the more aggressive dog.
Work at the Zoo
Animal shelters
These always need volunteers to help care for the neglected animals. This could involve looking after kangaroos, horses, sheep, goats, and dogs and cats. With this postiion you would need to do some training on correct handling on a variety of different animals.
All dogs need obedience training. They need to learn how and when to behave while on a leash, or out in the park with their owners. This would be a great way for earning money. You would need to be very good at handling all types of dogs, and not be afraid of them. This may involve doing a training course yourself and obtaining the correct certificates before starting down this track.
There are so many more opportunities for ways to work with animals. You could try one of these, working at the Zoo, working with a horse farrier, or become a veterinary assistant to name a few. Some of these may require training.
Whatever path you take, enjoy every moment of your time, playing or working with wonderful animals that make our world a better place to live.

topstuff, yes you have to start out somewhere, if you like working with animals
I always had wished being a vet, but since I could never afford it, I had to take alrernatives: vet assistant and animal hospital receptionist. But being a vet was always my dream! Too bad it is soooo costly!
I would love to work for pet shelter when I have time, my friend does a tremendous job rescuing these poor and abused animals.
In my next life, I want to come back as a dog. Preferably something furry.
Great hub and great ideas. Almost wish I was young again.
Alexadry yes nowadays you may get help with fees etc.

Thanks Eileen, I am going to check it out.
A very interesting read with cute photos. I wanted to work for the K9 Corps when I was younger but just didn't have what it took to join the police force. Still, I love animals.
I think it takes special with a lot of varied strengths to cope in the police force. People in general have lost respect for authority these days, which is a shame.
Thanks for stopping by and reading my article.
I love the dogs and cats I had when I was younger, but I am no longer able to have pets where I live. Being a dog walker would be a great way to spend time with dog and I have thought about offering to do this if any of my friends ever ask. Unfortunately, none of my friends have dogs right now, but I am ready and willing if they ever get one. This hub is great tool for high school students considering a career working with animals. Thanks for the great hub.
Sweetiepie, why dont you put a small notice in your local shopping centre offering this service to someone or several people. That way you could earn money and enjoyment as well. Thanks for stopping by.
Good tips! There are many jobs in the horse industry, too. It has been a blessing to be able to earn money doing something I love. WRITING about the animals we love is another way to earn extra income.

I got cold feet when I was young an entering college about becoming a vet. Now that I am older I have terrible regrets about it. I'm not too old to go back to vet school but now it would be much more complicated. I am always looking for ways to work with animals. This gave really good ideas for working or starting my own business.
