How to get cheap car insurance for young drivers?

Just because the car insurance is usually not cheap for young drivers, it doesn’t mean that cheap car insurance is not available for young people. If you take care of a few things and you shop around looking for good deals, you should be able to find a relatively cheaper car insurance policy for young people. Not all insurance companies are same in their processing and criteria. If an insurance company is providing a cheap insurance policy to you, it doesn't mean it will be cheaper for someone else. This is because the need, criteria and background for everyone is not same. Here are a few tips which will help you guide through this process to finding cheap car loan for your people:

  • If the person still lives with his parents, it is easiest to get him added to the existing car insurance policy of his father or mother. This would be the cheapest option. The young person can be added as an additional rider to an existing policy. Sure, it will raise the premium amount by something but it would be much cheaper than buying a totally new one for the kid. Let him drive their car and get some experience before buying himself a new one.
  • Even if you have to buy a separate policy for the young one, try to buy an older car instead of a new sports car. The premium amount between these two cars will be huge. Since older and heavier cars are more stable and less prone to theft, the premium amount is much less than new sports car. Also, the new car will be more powerful in terms of horsepower. More horsepower means higher premium.
  • Add adequate safety features to the car which is going to be driven by the teenager or young person. Usually, insurance companies will provide rebates if the car has safely features like car alarms, extensible car seat belts and double airbags. Spending money on these safety features makes much more common sense than buying a flashy new car.
  • Usually good students get good rebates. As per studies conducted, insurance companies provide good rebates to good students. This means, student with higher GPA (above 3.5) will get a better deal than a student with GPA less than 3. The studies show that a good student will be able to handle the pressure situations better than others.
  • You can also choose to have relatively higher deductible amount in your policy. This means that you will need to take care of small bangs and bumps on your own. But in the long run, it will be much more cost effective than paying huge premium. Usually, insurance companies reduce the premium if you agree for a higher deductible amount. This will help reduce the premium by a considerable amount.

Apart from the above cost saving tips, there are a few more things you can do to get cheap car insurance for young drivers.
