A mobile notary provides a wide range of notary services such as loan signing, court testimony, deeds of trust, and other official documents in the privacy of your home or office. The mobile notary service unlike the traditional notary does not require you to travel to a real estate office, bank, or courthouse to get a document notarized. Instead, the mobile notary agrees to meet you at a specified time and location to provide the needed notary services.

When Do You Need a Notary Public?

A notary public is a person who can act as a witness, can administer official oaths, and authenticate legal documents making the documents legally binding. You will need the services of a notary public any time you are signing a legal document or contract that requires you to have your identity verified. The notary public will verify a piece of personal identification such as a driver's license or passport and once you have proven your correct identity, they will apply an official seal they proves the documents were signed by you.

Today, the most common function for a mobile notary is loan signing for mortgage refinance. This allows a mortgage company to handle all of the details of your loan remotely. When this is the purpose of the mobile notary service, the mortgage broker will usually cover most of the cost.

Where to Find a Notary Public

It is fairly easy to find a mobile notary service these days as many licensed notaries are performing the mobile service on an as needed basis, or even converting their service to a completely mobile one. You should also try your local title company or mortgage broker. There are typically individuals at these companies who are public notaries and will be willing to provide a mobile service for a reasonable cost.

How to Set Up the Appointment

It is important when you contact the mobile notary and set up an appointment that you completely and accurately describe the exact service you require. This will allow them to bring all the required stamps and seals and also have adequate time to handle your request. They will usually tell you what form of identification is accepted and exactly what fees to expect. There can be a per page fee along with an overall fee for the mobile service. You will also need to let the notary know where you would like to meet. Most notaries will meet you at your work or home and you can even sometimes arrange a meeting at a public place such as a coffee shop or café.
