The idea of writing an article on how to find an Avon necklace was kind of surprising to me as I still imagined the Avon Company of just selling makeup. However, after a few quick trips online I found there are many kinds of Avon necklaces and a large demand for them. From the Avon Hello Kitty Necklace, to different kinds of vintage Avon necklaces, the variety is quite astounding.

Avon originally started as the “California Perfume Company” back in 1886. The first product that rolled into stores was known as the Little Dot Perfume set and had just five different fragrances in it. In 1937 the company officially changed names to Avon, and slowly started increasing product lines. The first Avon Necklace is said to have been created in the 1970’s, although exact information is hard to come by.

Based on online research and sales numbers there are about five highly popular necklaces made by Avon. They are; Avon Heart Necklace, Avon Pearl Necklace, Avon Gold Necklace, Avon Empowerment Necklace, and the Avon Breast Cancer Necklace. In addition, each year Avon creates a special awareness pin that is sold in conjunction with the national Brest Cancer Awareness campaign.

My hope is this Hubpage will give you some quick information on the different styles of necklaces available from Avon, and current pricing information when accessible.

This piece of jewelry from the Avon Collection is part of their larger line of “Hello Kitty” accessories. In my research I was unable to find any big retailer, online or retail, that currently sells these products. On the official Avon page I did see a Hello Kitty blanket and a match pillow, but no wearable items. However, on eBay I was able to find one of the necklaces for around ten dollars.

The most popular style of this necklace seems to be the “Y Rhinestone” version which is pictured along this article. The standard chain is 17” but can be extended an additional three inches.  There is also a kind of online "pearl necklace buzz" around the Avon necklaces in this style.

Another very popular design of the Avon Necklace is the heart style.  Much like the other styles mentioned there are several different designs of Avon Heart Necklaces.  The Avon website lists six different heart necklaces, ranging in price from six dollars to around a hundred.  There is also a nice matching set of tennis bracelets that will fit with the heart necklace.

Since the original Avon Necklace was released sometime in the seventies, there are plenty of pieces that would qualify as a Vintage Avon Necklace.  Having said that, there are two specific details at play in this area you should consider.  Avon currently makes some vintage looking pieces that include brushed silver, antique looking settings and the like.  These may look “vintage” in their style and design, but are NOT vintage in age.  If you are doing searching on the internet for an older Avon necklace, make sure you clarify its original age before buying it.

Once again I turned to eBay to find the price range of various vintage Avon necklaces from years past.  As I browsed hundreds of different items I was surprised to see many older pieces were still very reasonable in price.  I a seventeen year old pendent in perfect condition for just three dollars plus shipping while a twenty plus year old rhinestone piece was listed at thirty-dollars.

Avon has a large selection of current pendant style necklaces on their official website, as well as discontinued items being available at many online retailers.

One particularly nice piece is the 14 carat Gold Green Jade Heart Pendant.  The name is surprisingly long, but as you can see in the picture, it is a very nice looking piece of jewelry for well under a hundred dollars.  I was also pleasantly surprised to find this piece is currently available from several online retailers including Amazon.com.  If you aren’t looking to spend less than thirty-dollars for a quality pendant necklace made by Avon, you have many options as well.

The pearl necklace has slowly been making a comeback as both an extra fancy and casual looking piece of jewelry.  Because of this Avon has recently released seven pearl necklaces, or place settings for your own pearls.  The classic Avon Pearl Necklace is probably the Sterling Silver Freshwater Pearl set in a gift pouch.  At the time of this writing the set was not available from the Avon website, but according to an online notification, will be soon.  The set, which includes a 17” chain, three inch extender and more, will sell for just under sixty-dollars.

Once again, checking the eBay inventory of Avon created pearl necklaces I found several good looking faux Pearl pieces.  These would be perfect for young girls having to attend, or take part in, special occasions such as wedding, graduations or bar mitzvah’s.  There are plenty of faux pieces that run under ten dollars that will relieve your worry about “losing” precious jewelry.

There are also several other necklaces created by Avon that have found a following with jewelry fans. 

The Avon Empowerment Necklace sells for just five dollars on the Avon site, and one-hundred percent of profits ($4.11 per necklace) will be given to fund an end against violence towards women.

The company also creates several unique Avon Birthstone Necklace options each year, although I had a very hard time finding them online.  Surprisingly enough I was finally able to locate them on the Avon Spanish language website.

Finally the Avon Breast Cancer necklace is probably one of the best selling pieces of jewelry of all time.  Initially released in 2004, the piece is available year-round and is seen as professionally designed, thus appropriate for many formal functions.
