How to find niches without a Keyword Research Tool

Many of you are familiar with doing keyword research and using free tools or micro niche finder software, well if you are just starting out and you want a quick way to find niches to write about, then you will want to continue to read further.

  • Magazine rack in your local supermarket: this is a great place to find micro niches simply because the magazine isle will have every type of magazine imaginable on all types of special interests, such as fly fishing, wine, sewing. Etc.
  • Sports and Hobby Associations: If you do a search for clubs or associations you will find that there is one for every sport that is thinkable where members become social figures commenting and keeping up to date in their particular sports activity, from soccer, to lifting weights, or rollerblading.

Micro Niches in your Medicine Cabinet

Now I have just covered some places where you can get micro niche ideas and how you can use these places to have fresh material to write about on your blogs or websites, now I am going to share a concept with you that will help you with finding micro niches that are in high demand from consumers because they need quick remedy or solutions for the following:

Go to the medical treatment and disease and conditions section in the local library or book store, look at books that provide home remedies or cures for ailments. This will give you a clear picture on what the various things people need help with right away.

Such as migraines, dandruff, acne, warts, asthma, cholesterol, hair loss, stretch marks or athletes feet. You get the idea, if you take these broad topics and dig deeper you will find micro niches which are sub categories for example,:

How to find a Micro Niche inside a larger Niche

Migraines is a broad niche but migraines during pregnancy or migraines and menopause are micro niches because they narrow down to a specific group or symptom.

Dandruff is another one that has a smaller niche which is Seborrheic dermatitis, a skin disorder affecting the scalp, so by concentrating on a sub category of a main niche you will have a low competition.

Acne is another one that can be narrowed down to acne scar removal, which is going to reach those who are into more than just treating acne outbreaks. And the same process can be used for Warts, Asthma,Hair loss, Athlete's foot.

Best Micro Niches can be found in your Local Area

Check for Micro Niches in your surroundings and environment

One way to know what to write about is to look around your neighborhood, in your refridgerator, in your closet, in your backyard, in old books, in the television guide. The reason is because if you buy it, use it or have it so does a lot of other people, so you will want to learn how to cater to the needs of consumers.

Some questons to ask yourself if you are looking for new topics to write about.

Do you like pets, if so which kind and what physical characteristics do the pets have? Do you like to cook? if so what types of dishes and what ingredients are needed? Do you like to sew? if so what type of things do you make? This is where you will find micro niche topics of interests that are universal.

Keep track of current events, popular trends:

Notice what is going on in the media, current trends among demographical groups by age and gender for example women shaving part of their head is a fade of interest, teens putting together dance crews are popular, more people are learning to play the guitar, growing vegetable gardens inside the house is also a new trend. Once you tap into looking for the things going on in the world and in your local area, you will be able to spot micro niches to use for your web content that is relevant and in demand.

Hey, that is outside the box thinking (or outside the computer). I'll keep an eye for those odd categories now that could prove to be a gold nugget. And everybody could use a little gold these days. Great tip

Hey waynet, thanks for the encouragement, I see so many trends coming out of this recession that if a person is smart about it they can really monopolize the emerging niches as they happen.

This is the first time I've ever seen anyone suggest ways to find niches other than through keyword analysis of some kind - well done!

Thanks marisa for the comment, I have found that most people operate under the "herd" mentality so they seem to follow the crowd and whatever the majority says is HOT then they jump all over it like bees to honey. When in actuality there are multiple ways to achieve the same results, it just takes creativity and as the saying goes " thinking outside of the box" or like I prefer to say is create your own box.
