Even though there are thousands of books out there, sometimes you want to sit down and enjoy out-of-print romance novels. Why? Well, through out-of-print romance you’re introduced to a whole new world of writing. This is especially the case if the novel is a classic like The Scarlet Letter or The Blue Lagoon. You get to enjoy a reading experience that might not be possible with contemporary novels.
There is just one problem… finding out-of-print novels. Since they are no longer being manufactured, out-of-print novels aren’t easily stocked on bookstore shelves. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t find them. You’ll just have to do a little bit more investigation.
You can start this investigation at your local library, since libraries are famous for holding virtually any type of book, whether they are works from celebrity authors or out-of-print romance novels. Just ask the librarian to look up the title of the out-of-print novel you’re interested in. He or she will look it up on the computer and let you know within seconds if their chain has any.
Or, if you prefer to peruse several out-of-print romance novels, there’s the option of going to a used bookstore. Examples include The Paperback Trade Inn, The Book Barn or Around About Books. A simple search in your local Yellow Pages can locate more used bookstores, if you find you don’t live in the vicinity of the above-mentioned ones.
Finally, you can go online for out-of-print romance novels. Both Amazon and Barnes and Noble have sections dedicated to used and/or out-of-print books. In fact, I actually got a very rare out-of-print book from Amazon. It was called Yentyl, and it was the basis for the 1983 movie.
However, you do have to pay attention to the descriptions of out-of-print romance novels. And I’m not talking about the descriptions describing what the book is about. Rather, I’m talking about the descriptions that discuss the actual condition of the book. Remember, since most out-of-print romance novels are used, you want to make sure the condition is still good enough for use. Sometimes it isn’t, as there might be a spill or a problem with the binding. And, the cheaper the novel is, the more likely there is going to be a problem with its condition.
But as long as you keep that in mind, you can expand your online search to include auction sites like eBay or uBid. There’s also discount sites like Half.com, where no auctioning is necessary to buy out-of-print romance novels.
In conclusion, there are resources you can turn to if you’re interested in out-of-print romance novels. True, they may not be as desirable as your local bookstore, but they will achieve the main objective… allowing you access to some of the world’s best yet most forgotten romance books.
