Finding Total True Love in a new earth way, A New Earth Discussion, Part 19

Tolle tells us there are three modalities of doing in a new earth way - acceptance, joy, and enthusiasm.

First is acceptance of what you are doing in the moment. If you don’t like it - than change it. No matter which you choose stop complaining. Have you ever tried not complaining? Try it for a day even just one hour.

The second modality is live in joy. Enjoy what you are doing in the moment.

Now, the third modality is where life becomes really interesting. Do whatever it is you do with enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is joyful doing that is directed by a goal that is in alignment with your outer purpose. This is where the inner and outer you meet in a life that is filled with creativity and contentment even in the face of life’s little (and very big) challenges.

Now, Tolle does say that having a goal to make a million dollars is not what he’s talking about. He’s talking about the goal to help others (and subsequently you can make money, even use how much money you make as a measure of your physical success.)

I have personal experience with this “goal” setting. When I was small you might have considered my family to be lower middle class in terms of the income. My parents were ambitious and want more for themselves and us kids. They encouraged us to go to college. I remember my dad saying ‘If you want to make money, be the boss.’

Because we didn’t have much. They shopped at the food warehouse and bought canned corn by the case – when it went on sale.

I started earning my own spending money babysitting when I was 13. I saved and saved for clothes, gas money when I could drive, and college. I am proud of the fact that I paid my own way through undergraduate school and two graduate programs, one at a public university and one private.

How much money I had was important to me. As I look back, I think having money and saving money became so important to me because my parents were proud of me for my bank account.

As a kid, I developed some inaccurate mental wiring. Everything I did revolved around making money for money’s sake. I did love helping the people I worked with. I’m sure that is one reason my company was as successful as it was.

But, after having enough money to do whatever I wanted, I wasn’t happy. Why? Tolle tells us that making a million isn’t all it’s presented to be. I know... I’m working on my second million. For a long time it was all about making more money. I made a million, and then I wanted two. Was it greed? No, it was me always needing to feel like my folks are approving of me. Look at me, aren’t I good?

My bank account may be good, but the real question is ‘Am I living life with enthusiasm?’ When I focus on the money, the answer is no. When I focus on helping people, the answer is yes.

To find total true love in life which is the merging of your inner and outer purposes and living life with enthusiasm, discover your irresistible definition of life.

Total true love begins with discovering yourself. Money won’t make you happy in the long run. Another person won’t make you happy in the long run. Being a size 2 won’t make you happy in the long run. Discovering yourself and being yourself by being consciously aware of each moment will make you happy.
