Not all Juicers will Juice Wheatgrass

The are many health benefits to 'green juice' but not all juicers will cope with wheatgrass. The trick is to study juicer reviews to be sure the machine you are thinking of buying is able to process wheatgrass - then you won't waste your money!

Wheatgrass Juicer Reviews

Well, I'm writing this because I haven't been able to find any juicer reviews that adequately cover the subject.

I'm going to tell you more about the health benefits of green juice in just a moment and then you will appreciate why I was searching for a wheatgrass juicer.

I am the sad owner of three juicers. That's right, three. It's an embarrassing admission to make. It makes me sound like some kind of juicer junkie. The problem is that only one of them produces the sort of juice I wanted, needed and liked. Let me start at the beginning....

Having suffered a number of illnesses, the detail of which I shall spare you, a nutritionist recommended a daily intake of green juice. This sounded simple but later experience showed that nothing could actually be more difficult.

I immediately went to my local retailer and bought a juicer. It didn't occur to me that a juicer wouldn't juice. I naively thought that a juicer would do just what it said on the label. Mistake number 1. I had bought what was effectively a smoothie maker. It's a blender by another name and it works very well with soft fruit but it turned wheatgrass into slime.

Not to be deterred, and still stupidly without reading any juicer reviews, I went out and bought a centrifugal juicer. This was better but was still mistake no. 2. It certainly juiced a lot of things but it got very hot, it was very noisy to use (never popular first thing in the morning!) and it also created a small amount of juice covered by a large amount of icky foam. Oh, and it wouldn't produce juice from wheatgrass.

So, finally, I did some research (for a writer it is shameful to confess that I did no research in the first place) and discovered that, to juice wheatgrass, a macerating juicer is required. However, be warned, not all macerating juicers will work with wheatgrass - only some. You must read the boxes carefully to avoid being caught out.

Being new to hub pages I don't want to fall foul of the management by naming names! I only buy juicers, I don't sell them but if anyone wants information on the make and model I finally settled on I'd be happy to supply it.

I hope you'll read on to find out why I was making such a fuss about wheatgrass and green juice. It has made such a difference to my life, I would encourage you to try it.

The Health benefits of Green Juice

The first thing I have to say is that green juice doesn't always taste yummy! For that reason you may want to mix it with another juice that you do enjoy. The good news is that wheatgrass juice is produced in what is effectively a shot glass, so just like medicine, one mouthful and it is gone!

Green juice gets its colour from the chlorophyll in plants. Chlorophyll is the one substance in nature that most closely resembles the chemical make up of blood and this similarity makes green juice very body-friendly.

The wheatgrass to be used in juicing is produced by the red wheatberry. This wheatgrass is nutrient rich but must it be juiced as the nutrients are contained within the cellulose cell walls, and cellulose is a substance that we cannot digest. The act of juicing releaces the juice and all the nutrients in an available form.

There is nothing like wheatgrass juice for detoxing the system. It is, simply put, fantastic. The chlorophyll levels will give your blood a good clean, boost heamoglobin levels and allow more oxygen to be transported around the body. This all leads to more energy and less disease.

I haven't been able to find published scientific studies on the benefits of wheatgrass but there is plenty of anecdotal evidence around that suggests wheatgrass juice is really helpful for all skin conditions - particularly eczema and psoriasis.

Wheatgrass juice forms the basis for many of the alternative cancer cures, such are its healing and restorative properties.

What I can tell you is that I haven't looked back since I've been taking a daily dose of wheatgrass juice. My health is restored and my energy levels are higher than they have been for years. I guess you could describe me as a fan.

I buy wheatgrass kits from a health food supplier and grow my own. That way I know it is fresh and unadulterated.

There will be those of you reading this who will be thinking 'what a ridiculous amount of toruble to go to, just for a 1oz glass of unpleasant tasting juice!' and I don't blame you....three years ago I would have thought the same thing.

However, if you have any health concerns and want to give your body's natural defence mechanisms some support I urge you to try wheatgrass juice. If you simply like to look after yourself and treat your body well, once again I say give wheatgrass juice a try.

Wheatgrass Juice Recipes

I've already mentioned that I find wheatgrass juice a little unpalatable so I thought I would share with you here some wheatgrass juice recipes.

Wheatgrass and celery with a splash of tabasco

Wheatgrass and parsley

Wheatgrass and orange juice (an intersting colour when it's made!)

Wheatgrass and mint

Wheatgrass and cucumber

Each of these counteract the sweetness and 'green-ness' of the wheatgrass juice.

Of course, you may like wheatgrass juice as it is!

There is a space for comments below and I really hope people will share their wheatgrass experiences and recipes
