Fire Station Meatloaf

While working as a chef's assistant I brought this recipe in and we prepared it for a banquet that afternoon. After hearing the overwhelmingly positive response, the chef offered to buy the recipe from me. I gave it to her.
As I love to do, I've made some additions and variations to the original recipe.
I don't recommend this recipe if you're dieting.

The Ingredients
- 1 lb hamburger
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 1 11oz can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 chopped orange or yellow bell pepper
- 2 eggs
- half stack saltine crackers
- 1 tblspn sweet basil
- salt & pepper to taste
______________________________
The Sauce
- 2 cups ketchup (or "catsup," if you prefer)
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 2 tblspns sweet/hot mustard
- 2 tblspns brown sugar
______________________________
Preparation
Mix the ingredients in a large bowl with your hands. Then bake, in a meatloaf pan, at 350 for 45 minutes.
Remove loaf from the oven and drain the grease. Poke holes in the top with a wooden spoon and pour half of the sauce over the top. Then bake for an additional 45 minutes.
Use remaining sauce to pour over individual servings.
Serve with mashed potatoes and a veggie.

You're very welcome marisue. I hope he likes it. I just got got finished publishing that recipe not 5 minutes ago. Youre quick! And you're also my first hub fan and the first comment I've gotten so far on any of my hubs. Thank you.
you know sometimes we "readers" get lost -- there's so many good things to read...hang in there...we'll all find you...and maybe because I clicked on you some of the ones who click on me will click on you and there it goes! I'll read you again ...Marisue
Hi,
I'm a newby also. I love recipes and like you I'm always making them my own with variations. I will try the meatloaf, it sounds great. I posted a dog treat recipe on mine and plan on putting more recipes of the human kind on it.
FYI: just in case you don't know, I didn't. In order to be paid you must sign up with Google and Amazon (ebay is out right now). Click on the "help" tab above and go down to the "Get Paid" (or something like that). It will walk you through the steps you need. Don't get frustrated, it can take some time. I got an acceptance from Amazon the very next day, but I guess Google can take a week or two. Then you will need to add the Amazon capsul so you can display their books, etc. on your page. If you already know this and I'm the only ditz, than never mind.

Karen, thank you for the nice feedback. I was aware of the Google sign-up, but them came across a page where they were asking me how I was going to pay them. I opted out. I have a border collie mix named Shy, so I'll check out your doggie treats recipe.
Decrescendo, this is not a diet meal. It's a "treat yourself once in a while because you deserve it" meal.
Except for the juices I recommended in my Cool Things List, the other recipes I've wrote about aren't meant everyday eating.
This looks great! I have a similar recipe, but yours includes many more ingredients (that my kids would fuss about). I will have to make some other time just for me and hubby. ps. I'm not aware of Google charging you for the privilege of them running ads on your page. You may want to post for more info on the forums. I've been here 3 months and have not had to pay anything.
OK, I'll check it out again. You and hubby will definitely like the meatloaf, and I'm thinking your kids might too... the sauce is a SWEET sauce!
Steph, my mistake. Just signed up. I think I mistook the "where payment will be sent to." Doh!
Thanks.
Good - I don't want to see you losing out on any extra $$ :-) And thanks for the tips on the meatloaf, really, its one of my favorite meals, easy and leftovers (if there are any) are great too. I am looking forward to trying it out!
Thank YOU, I wouldn't want that either. I think you'll like the meatloaf. It's had great success at both restaurants it's been served at. ...and OH, those leftover/meatloaf sandwiches!
PS: Has it been snowing in Bend? It snowed twice here last week. Couldn't believe it.
