Finding Replacement Fireplace Glass Doors
If you are in need of finding replacement glass doors, or just the glass panels for your style of fireplace, where do you begin looking?
It really depends on what type of fireplace you have. If you have a traditional hearth fireplace, sometimes the replacement costs of the doors for your firebox are just as expensive as completely replacing them with a new fireplace doors unit.
With the growing trend of people having gel fireplaces or natural gas ventless fireplaces, the best option to find replacement glass doors for these units is sometimes the manufacturer of your particular unit. You really need to make sure that you find the right doors because of safety concerns of carbon monoxide. These units are designed to work with the right doors which allow for proper airflow and ventilation. Replacing the factory doors with substandard doors can lead to problems.

How to Clean Fireplace Glass
With most gel or ventless fireplaces, you don't have to worry about cleaning the soot stained glass doors. However, if you are wanting to clean those soot stained glass doors, there are several things you can try. There are also a couple of precautions you need to be aware of in order to prevent damaging your glass doors.
First, you can try using a razor blade to scrape the bulk of the soot off of the glass. You will want to be careful with the razor blade due to its sharpness, however this is one of the most effective ways to remove soot. Take the razor and begin scraping the glass, just like you would remove a sticker from a car window. This will often take most of the soot from the glass and will allow for a more traditional cleaner to take the rest of it off.
Another method is to remove the glass from the door panel and let it soak in a cleaner solution. Using a cleaner such as Simple Green or other non-abrasive cleaner is a good option. You can then use a soft bristle brush, like a car tire brush or toothbrush to scrub the remainder of the soot from the door.
You will want to stay away from any abrasive cleaners, such as steel wool or brillo pads because they can actually scratch the glass.
There are also specialized fireplace glass door cleaners that are on the market that many people have tried and have reported good results in restoring the clearness back to their fireplace glass doors.
