Applying for Chinese Visa in Hong Kong

"Can I apply for a Chinese visa in Hong Kong?"

This is probably one of the most frequently asked questions in China travel-related forums. The short answer is "yes".

If you are visiting Shenzhen, 5 days visitor visa can be obtained from the border (Luohu rail).

If you're planning to stay longer and/or wish to visit other places in China, you can apply for visa from the Visa office of:

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China

7th Floor, Low Block

26 Harbor Road

Wanchai, Hong Kong Island

China Resources Building which is near the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Alternatively, China Travel Service (Hong Kong) also provides visa application services. With branch offices and flexible opening hours, CTS Hong Kong may be more convenient. But it is more expensive than applying through the Visa Office directly.

Where to stay?

When it comes to hotels within China, you just have to be a little careful.

  • Hotel Travel Guide China - International Brand hotels, 4 and 5 Star

Mostly these types of 4 and 5 star hotels will be ok, generally they will be run by a western boss and have western heads of all the departments. Training, etc, of the staff, consistency of the level service from an international brand hotel is important, so most will have enough English speakers around to make your stay welcome and hassle free. The breakfast will be catered for both Chinese and Western appetites, with the hotel occupancy rate around 50 - 50 Chinese to Westerner.
