So you've met the girl of your dreams at a cafe in the city, walked around the streets arm in arm talking for hours, grabbed a bite to eat and exchanged numbers. She calls you the next day asking if you want to hang out which, of course, you do. If the chemistry is there it won't really matter what you do together, you'll enjoy just being in one another's company. Still, it never hurts to set the mood a little with the right music, the right activity, the right clothes, etc. If there's nothing romantic or intriguing playing in your local theater, invite her over to your place and suggest watching a movie on your couch instead. It will be more comfortable and more intimate there besides. Although at this point in the game you could put on "Night of the Living Dead" and it would seem romantic because you're so into each other, the following films are a bit more appropriate and work wonders when it comes to setting the mood for an unforgettable evening.

HOT -- "Bound" features Violet (Jennifer Tilly), a high-class super femme married to an Italian mafioso and Corky (Gina Gershon), a hot butch super-dyke recently released from prison who is employed as a live-in maintenance worker at the apartment high rise where Violet and Caesar live. When Violet "accidentally" drops an earring down the sink, she calls Corky to come fix it and instantly seduces her with her sultry, raspy voice and not-so-subtle, not-so-accidental touches. It isn't long before they're all over each other, grabbing and pulling and kissing with animalistic fervor. When Corky finds out that Caesar is about to be in possession of an huge sum of money, she and Violet hatch a plan to rob him of millions and run away together in this cinematic explosion of lust, crime and dangerous passion.

MEMORABLE QUOTE: Violet: I'm not apologizing for what I did. I'm apologizing for what I didn't do.

ROMANTIC COMEDY -- "But I'm a Cheerleader" is a "comedy of sexual disorientation" starring Natasha Lyonne as Megan, a cheerleader whose conservative, Christian parents send her to True Directions against her will. True Directions is a sleepaway camp that attempts to turn gays straight by employing a variety of hilarious methods to teach the teenagers how to conform to proper gender roles. While there she meets Graham, played by Clea DuVall, the camp outcast and only one in the bunch who isn't afraid of her sexual identity. When paired together for a group activity, Megan and Graham, who were never friendly, suddenly hit it off. The love scene set to the song "Glass Vase Cello Case" by Tattle Tale is tender and intense. But when Megan runs away from the camp before graduation, Graham has to decide whether or not she can forsake her parents in exchange for true love.

MEMORABLE QUOTE: Graham: You are who you are, the trick is not getting caught! Megan: Then why are you here? Graham: I got caught.

CUTE -- "Go Fish", starring Guinevere Turner as Max (you'll remember her as Gabby Deveaux from Showtime's "The L Word"), is a black-and-white independent film documenting the many nuances of embarking on a new relationship. Max is looking for love, but when she meets Ely (played by V.S. Brodie) through a mutual friend, there is little attraction on her part. But over the course of the film, the two keep running in to each other and being pushed together by fate until they finally give in and arrange to go out on a date. Although they appear to be quite an odd couple--Max is tomboyish and small, Ely is large and giraffe-like with a shaved head, and both wear the freaky highwaist jeans of the early 1990's--they end up hitting it off.

DRAMATIC COMEDY -- "Girl Play" tells the true story of two real-life lesbian actresses who met and fell in love while performing the roles of lovers in a local stage play. Robin Greenspan is a Jewish lesbian who has to find a way to finally come out to her overbearing mother after decades of being in the closet, while Lacie Harmon struggles with leaving a long-term but basically dried up relationship so that she can be with Robin. Told in an interview-style and spliced with flashbacks, "Girl Play" is a light-hearted comedy that will have you laughing out loud as you "awww!" at the cute quirkiness of falling in love.

HEART BREAKING -- "Lost and Delirious" is a good pick if you're already comfortable bawling your eyes out in front of your new partner. The movie details the dramatic rise and subsequent fall of lesbian lovers and best friends Paulie (Piper Perabo) and Victoria (Jessica Pare) set on the campus of the all-girls boarding school they both attend. Told from the point of view of Mouse (Mischa Barton, before her "OC" fame), who recently lost her mother, "Lost and Delirious" begins on a happy, upbeat note but quickly hits a downward spiral when the girls are caught naked in bed together and Tori, much to Paulie's chagrin, denounces their love rather than coming out about it.

MEMORABLE QUOTE: Tori: Paulie, listen to me ok, because I'm going to say this once and never, ever again. I will never love anyone the way that I love you. Never. You know that, and I know that, and I will die knowing that, ok? But it just can never... it just can never, ever, forever be. Do you understand? It just can never, ever, forever be.
