Fishing in Florida
67Florida Recreation-Fishing
Looking for another great passtime before deciding to move to Florida? How 'bout the great year round fishing? Freshwater or saltwater, we have it all...all the time!
Freshwater fishing in lakes, creeks and canals. Throughout Florida there are large and small lakes and rivers loaded with fish! For instance some of the larger, more well known ones include Lake Okeechobee, Lake George, and the St. John's River.
The St. Johns is 300+ miles long flowing north from the southern pat of the state. You can catch large mouth bass, bream, redear sunfish, redbreast sunfish, speckled perch, and catfish.
Lake George is lacated in Putnam & Volusia Counties through which the St. Johns River flows.
Saltwater fishing is also a great passtime! Whether it be surf fishing, or offshore fishing we have it. Fish the ICW, the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean or the Gulf of Mexico all from Florida! There are so many different species of fish, it is hardto name them all. The most important thing to know is that 1. YOU NEED A LICENSE...for this you can click the link below to learn more, and 2. you need to know the saltwater fishing regulations. That is-how many fish you can keep per person or per boat, of what type, and how big (of small) they must be.
So if you are on the fence about relocating to Florida, and fishing is your "thing", hopefully this has boosted your enthusiasm for the move. Florida really is a great state for recreation!
I will be hubbing shortly on many of the other year round recreational activities that Florida's beautiful climate has to offer you and your family that may peak your interest, so check back often.

Great article. This is one of the main reasons I haven't left Florida! I have year round hobbies here. I fish almost every weekend...then if I get a 3-4 day weekend I'll travel down to the Florida Keys where the water is warmer and you find more tropical type catch, or west to Panama City to fish the Gulf. Sometimes I just fish for bass in the pond behind my house. Florida's climate lets me do all the things I love to do outdoors year round. Thanks for the links too.
I am so happy I moved to Florida, and finally got away from that cold north east weather! Making big changes are hard. It took a long time before I finally got up the courage, and what a payoff! Now everyday is sunny, I can enjoy fishing and water activities, and the clear blue skies year round. So come on down and catch ya some fish!
