Five Hundred Days of Summer - a Movie Review
77Five Hundred Days of Summer is a Movie of Every Girl's Dream
500 Days of Summer is a movie of every girl’s dream. The guy in the movie is hopelessly in love with a woman who has told him that she just wants to be friend. The guy suffers from heartache as the movie skips in stanza between the beginning of the relationship to the end of the relationship using random numbers from 1 to 500. Numbers at the beginning means that the relationship is blossoming and the numbers closer to 500 means that the relationship is deteriorating.
The setting is a greeting card company where the main character called Mr. Hansen though he is not all that handsome as the directors have him parading around in Beatles looking tight pants and jacket. He is in love with another greeting card writer, a plain jane brunette who he admits later have crooked teeth who just wants to be friends.
The guy informs his friends that he is hopelessly in love with the woman and one of them tells her that at an office party. Then starts the video-like movie complete with split screen of the relationship breaking up and then he chance meeting her on a train to learn than she is engaged.
He goes to a wedding party with her not knowing that she is engaged and in the split screen he expects to be greeted and kissed by her but in reality he sees her being given an engagement ring from a more attractive guy.
The main character in 500 Days of Summer gets advice from his two friend, one a rather handsome longhaired guy and another from a nerdy looking curly headed guy who revealed that the guy was in love with the greeting card co-worker. The main character later revealed that the two guys were incompetent because one of them only had a girlfriend in the seventh grade and another had been dating the same girl for years. Also the main character has a sister who throws in advice now and then. The most important advice came from a blind date near the 500 days meaning the relationship had broken up. The very pretty red-head said that the guy should have not been surprised when the relationship ended because, Summer, had told him that she did not want a relationship.
Summer was from a broken family as was the main character and she kept telling him that she only wanted to be friends. However as the days on the moving keeps clicking forward, the guy seems to be at the chase because he runs off in tears when he finds out that summer had become engaged. What girl would not want a guy to have that much feeling for her? But it seemed that as long as there was the challenge to get close to Summer, the main character was up for the chase until he realized that she had got engaged to another man.
Another chance meeting at the part revealed that Summer was expecting and the guy could not understand how could she have loved another when she was afraid of falling in love. Summer said that she had been unsure about her feelings for the main character but was sure of her love for her new baby. By now, the days are set at 500 and the main character has quit his job. He made an speech at the greeting card company that there was no such thing as love that the pop songs and greeting cards should let people speak for themselves. Then he announced that he was quitting the greeting card company.
The main character always wanted to be an architect even though he once told Summer that building are demolished while greeting cards last forever. The latter of the 500 days shows the lovelorn guy being rejected from architectural jobs. Then on the 500th day, he meets a beautiful brunette who recognized him from one of the nightclubs. They were both up for the same job and the main character jokingly said that he hope that she did not get the job.
The main character was called in for the interview and decided that he wanted to see the brunette again. At first the brunette declined and then agreed to go on a date with the guy who had been so hopelessly in love with Summer. Finally, it looked like things were looking up for the heartbroken guy and then he asks the beautiful brunette her name. Here is the twist in the movie. Her name was Autumn. That was the end of a movie that one wonders how did it make it to the big screen with the narrations throughout the movie and the video-like artwork including the main character superimposed in a musical when he first had sex with summer.
One movie goer left the movie before the movie ended. Was this an indication that he did not get his money'’ worth from the video-like scripted movie or maybe he did not want to waste anymore of his time at a movie that was over before it started. Maybe if the movie audience got the opportunity to meet Autumn, Summer and then find out that he married Spring, the time would have been well worth the movie ticket and seating though those randomly placed numbers from one to five hundred.

I saw this movie and thought it was great. I felt like it was more so about reality than all the other fake chick flicks out there. I wasnt excited about the sex scenes but it sells in holly wood. I wonder if it would be posible to make a movie with out sex today? Ha Idk. I dated this really hot guy and never had sex with him. Because i was moving to another town i had to break up with him, it was really hard. But come to find out I was the first girl to every break his heart, enstead of sex like every other girl he was with he really got to know me. We fell hard for eachother. But anyway your movie is Awesome!
Hea-Co, thank you for your comment.
