Five of the Best Romantic Songs Ever

Everyone I asked has a favorite romantic song that just plain does it for them. For some, they and their spouse shared a favorite song that was referred to as "our song." For others, I suspect, it was a more private thing. Here are the top picks, according to my friends:

"Your Song" by Elton John (Glen's favorite)

It's a little bit funny this feeling inside

I'm not one of those who can easily hide

I don't have much money but boy if I did

I'd buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no

Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show

I know it's not much but it's the best I can do

My gift is my song and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song

It may be quite simple but now that it's done

I hope you don't mind

I hope you don't mind that I put down in words

How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss

Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross

But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song

It's for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do

You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue

Anyway the thing is what I really mean

Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen.

"As Time Goes By" from the movie Casablanca (I have my friend Ken to thank for this one)

You must remember this

A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh.

The fundamental things apply

As time goes by.

And when two lovers woo

They still say, "I love you."

On that you can rely

No matter what the future brings

As time goes by.

Moonlight and love songs

Never out of date.

Hearts full of passion

Jealousy and hate.

Woman needs man

And man must have his mate

That no one can deny.

It's still the same old story

A fight for love and glory

A case of do or die.

The world will always welcome lovers

As time goes by.

Oh yes, the world will always welcome lovers

As time goes by.

"Color My World" by Chicago (My brother Kent's choice)

As time goes on

I realize

Just what you mean to me

And now, now that you're near

Promise your love T

hat I've waited to share

And dreams of our moments together

Color my world with hope of loving you

"Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" by Bryan Ferry (Trista swears this is "Our Song" for her and her military husband Josh)

They ask me how I knew

My true love was true

I of course replied

"something here inside

Cannot be denied"

They said "someday you'll find

All who love are blind"

When your heart's on fire

You must realize

Smoke gets in your eyes

So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed

To think they could doubt my love

Yet today my love has flown away

I am without my love

Now laughing friends deride

Tears I cannot hide

So I smile and say

"when a lovely flame dies

Smoke gets in your eyes"

"Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers (This one just plain does it for me) Oh, my love

my darling

I've hungered for your touch

a long lonely time

and time goes by so slowly

and time can do so much

are you still mine?

I need your love

I need your love

Godspeed your love to me

Lonely rivers flow to the sea,

to the sea

to the open arms of the sea

lonely rivers sigh 'wait for me, wait for me'

I'll be coming home wait for me

Oh, my love

my darling

I've hungered for your touch

a long lonely time

and time goes by so slowly

and time can do so much

are you still mine?

I need your love

I need your love

Godspeed your love to me

One of my faves is: Fresh Feeling by The Eels. It's gorgeous....

You don't have a clue
What it is like to be next to you
I'm here to tell you
That it is good
That it is true

Birds singing a song
Old paint is peeling
This is that fresh
That fresh feeling

Words can't be that strong
My heart is reeling
This is that fresh
That fresh feeling
TryTry to forget what's in the past
Tomorrow is here
Love,Orange sky above lighting your way
There's nothing to fear

Birds singing a song
Old paint is peeling
This is that fresh
That fresh feeling

Words can't be that strong
My heart is reeling
This is that fresh
That fresh feeling

Some people are good
Babe in the 'hood
So pure and so free
I'd make a safe bet
You're gonna get whatever you need

My very favourite romantic song is James Blunts' Fall at your feet, it kills me everytime :

I'm really close tonightAnd I feel like I'm moving inside herLying in the darkAnd I think that I'm beginning to know herLet it goI'll be there when you callAnd whenever I fall at your feetDo you let your tears rain down on meWhenever I touch your slow turning painYou're hiding from me nowThere's something in the way that you're talkin’Words don't sound rightBut I hear them all moving inside youGo nowI'll be there when you callAnd whenever I fall at your feetDo you let your tears rain down on meWhenever I touch your slow turning painThe finger of blame has turned upon itselfAnd I'm more than willing to offer myselfDo you want my presence or need my help?Who knows where that might leadI fallThe finger of blame has turned upon itselfAnd I'm more than willing to offer myselfDo you want my presence or need my help?Who knows where that might leadI fall at your feet

Um, hello, "fall at your feet" is NOT a James Blundt song.It is a song by Crowded House. Perhaps James Blundt did a cover of it, but you shoudn't credit him with the song cause it's NOT his.
