Scratched Eye glasses?

Well in these days of cheap eyeglasses available at the drugstores, super markets and even convenience stores. I have several pairs spread around the house, the garage, the car, office and the dunny. (that's Aussie for the loo)

Anyways, although I am generally not careless or clumsy I have been accumulating a collection of these in a drawer in various states of disrepair. Some of these including assorted sunglass, the lenses were scratched. On others the little plastic pieces which sit on the nose had fallen off and then there are some which the limbs had come off.

Then one day my $350 rimless prescription bifocals (the type made famous by our own Sarah Palin) had an accident joined the $5.99 ones in this particular drawer. I decide to do something immediately. I do a quick google search find the necessary tools grab a couple of beers and set out to do some repair work. Arrrrr.......................

Here is how you polish off the scratches.

Take a little bit of toothpaste on a piece of cotton or woolen cloth. Carefully rub the lens in small circles. After about 10 minutes wash off the toothpaste residue with warm water wipe and then inspect the scratch. Keep on doing this until you achieve the result you want. Use regular toothpaste and rub gently or you might dig into the glass itself.

And if the glasses have an anti-scratch coating you will have rub that coating off completely. Once that is done and if you are not satisfied with your result you will not be able to take your glasses back to the store you bought it as it will be out of warranty.

As for fixing the broken limbs you will need to get an inexpensive eye glass repair kit which is usually on the or close to the eyeglass display of your neighborhood drugstore or department store. This part is purely mechanical and you can cannibalize parts if you have more than one pair that drawer like I did.

You will be working with some really small screws. You may need to use the young eyes of a kid passing by or find a really well lit area and if possible get a magnifying glass before start off.

Best of luck. May you be scratch free for rest of your days.

I hope this helps.

Cheers.

Remember to be nice to our body, it is the only place you get to live in.
