Flash Forward Episode 5
66Gimme Some Truth
What was episode 5 about? Well right off the bat the show started with a bang and confused me till no end. So they rewind 39 hours in the past and tell us that they are in Washington D.C. in front of two senators requesting funding for the "Mosaic" duck hunt.
This episode was far more entertaining than the lackluster episode ABC aired previously. Stan (Field Director of FBI, Los Angeles office) just happens to be good pals with the President. The President even offers him a job as Director of Homeland Security but Stan would clearly be Field Director of an office. Are you serious? Who in the right mind would decline this offer? Turns out he declined it because he hates politics and wants as far away from D.C. as possible. Oh he also has the balls to blackmail the President into getting what he wants, that is funding for the Mosaic project.
Questions I raise are why does he need to blackmail the President? Is the Mosaic project not better than anything else the other agencies have come up with? In a crisis like this you would think the Government would gladly empty out their pockets to fund these types of goose chase. And What's Stan's beef with Senator Clemente?
Mark goes in front of the Senate board of 2 people and fails miserably, only to admit to Stan (his boss) that he was drunk in his flash forward. Of course his Olivia (Mark's wife) somehow gets a text message about it. Who sent her the text? And why they were being so anonymous about it?
Janis is revealed to be a lesbian who is into martial arts and there were more than one occasion where kissing scenes are shown between two women. No one in her office knows about her sexual preference and she keeps that to herself, but at the same time when she is out in public with her partner she has no problem showing some affection. Normally, if someone is shy about their sexual preference to be known, they would be try to hide it in all circumstances. Also I was surprised by the amount of openness ABC showed with airing those scenes. I'm glad to see more acceptance of homosexuality on television. How will this affect their viewership and even sponsorship? will it worsen or increase?
Janis & Maya end up breaking up because Janis wouldn't share her flash forward with her, so Maya searches on Mosaic website and finds the truth and is puzzled by what she finds. Janis is confused by all of this and her own flash forward and decides to call it off with Maya. Will Maya return in a future episode? Or will Janis become a heterosexual?
Eventually the show ends the way it started with a bang, Stan, Dimitri & Mark are leaving the senate hearings and are ambushed by a few men of Chinese origin with heavy artillery. They have a firefight and all the Chinese men are killed or wounded. At the same time in Los Angeles, Janis is shot in the stomach by an Oriental man and is lying in an alley. We know she survives because according to her flash forward she is visiting a doctor about her pregnancy. So who is targeting the FBI? Why? those are new questions that need to be answered.
I hope in the next episode the stories overlap each other rather than going in three different directions. Your thoughts on the show are welcome.
