What is the difference between flea and tick prevention and treatment?

If you don't have a flea and tick problem and you would like to keep from having one you need to take steps to prevent infestation.

  • Spot on products
  • Flea and tick shampoos
  • Flea and tick dips are available for use to prevent problems

Should you see fleas and ticks on your pet or where your pet plays you are going to have to treat the problem. Treatment may include, but not limited to:

  • Using a product on your pet
  • Treating the house
  • Treating the yard
  • Treating other areas your pet frequents

Flea and tick granules are great for treating the yard. This treatment should be done every 30 days. When applying the granules be sure to:

  • Water the product into the ground very well
  • Wash your hands after applying
  • Keep animals off the treated area for the length of time recommended on the product's label

Household foggers may be required to get the pests out of the house. Check with your pet supplier for products best suited for your situation.

Treatment of:

  • Play area
  • House
  • Yard
  • Pet

Treatment needs to be done at the same time for effective control of fleas and ticks.

All else fails, see the video "My Dog Has Fleas".
