Private Photos on Flickr Exposed through Google Image Search

Using Google Images is helping find private photos on Flickr

Today, I searched for "Strange Pictures" on Google Images. This brought up a photo thumbnail that I clicked on titled "Strange Little Girl". That link took me to a page that had the Google frame, and a message from Yahoo Flickr saying I didn't have permission to view the picture, but when I clicked on the Google link to the picture, I could see the entire picture. So now we can all see pictures that are supposed to be private where Google Images has crawled them.

Finding More Private Photos

Finding more private photos from Flickr can be done by using the site:static.flickr.com <search term> in the Google Images search box. The results have a mix of public and private photos.

I think it not the feature.... it's just not compleet Permission prohibition.

You can also try to reach full pictur, when only small is offers. Coz all pics are stored as static material with no permition rights. Is only you should know is compleet path to the pic.

I don't use flickr myself yet. I'll keep your info in mind though.

seeing the photo itself, it's not private it's just another "artistic" image that individuals wanted the whole web to see. but still, crawling some images by some search engines is absolutely possible.

You men are pigs. I think it would be reasonable to imagine the things you want kept private and then imagine that violated. Have some respect raymondephilippe, etc....

Interesting insight into modern ethics - why not just peek through the dorm windows of the nearest girls school? I vote its a bug not a feature!

Very interesting, I'll have to check to see if this "bug" has been fixed yet.
