Florida Gators is the football team of the University of Florida. The athletics program in this university is claimed to be the best in the entire South Eastern Conference. Some would even claim it is the best in the entire nation.

The first time University of Florida fielded a varsity team was way back in 1906. In that game, they defeated Gainesville Athletic Club 6-0. That was the start of an illustrious reign for the team that is top ranked in college football now. The Gators have a rich tradition of wins including 36 bowl games. They have also won 3 National Championships, the most recent one in 2008. They are also winners of eight South Eastern Conference Championships. This team has also produced some excellent athletes over the years. There have a hundred and thirty eight All Americans and thirty eight National Football League first round draft choices. Three players have also won the prestigious Heisman Trophy.

The Gators like any other great football team has its own rivals. The traditional rivals of the Gators are Georgia and Tennessee in the South Eastern Conference. Their in-state rival is FloridaState who play in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They also play their Western Division opponent LSU annually. Auburn and Miami have been bitter rivals of the Gators too. However, these matches are not played annually and the rivalry is not as intense anymore.

The Coach of the Gators is Urban Meyer. He was appointed in December 2004. Since his appointment, he has led his team to great victories. He has led the team to an impressive two National Championships. The first of the National Championships came in 2007 when the Gators beat the Ohio State Buckeyes 41-14. It next won the National Championship in 2009 beating the Oklahoma Sooners 24-14. This was their third National Championship and second under Meyer. Both the Sooners and the Buckeyes were top ranked when the Gators beat them.

The drink Gatorade derives its name from the Gators and it was developed in the University of Florida. The University of Florida has a very successful women’s athletic program as well. The women’s team calls itself “The Lady Gators”

Tim Tebow is even more respected off the field than he is on the field. He truly lives his Christian faith. Not only should he win the Heisman but I think he should be considered one of the best ever to play college football.

I couldn't agree more. Tebow is the best football player in America. Everyone talks about what a good person he is but as Coach Mc who won the national championship at Colorado awhile back who was always accused of recruiting choir boys always said. He is a good kid that will knock your brains out. He is extremely intense and seems to have a lot of respect of all his team mates. When he talks they listen.
