Maybe it came from your grandma, or a tip passed down from mom, or your crazy aunt on your dad's side, but most all families have little remedies that can cure a cold, help the flu and on and on.  I am posting some of those remedies here.  With the rising cost of medical care it is good to know a few remedies that just might come from your own kitchen and the best part is they ususally work.

  • Tomato Tea:

To help Sinus infection/congestion follow this Recipe:
    Add 1 cup tomato juice,
    1 tsp chopped fresh garlic,
    1/2 tsp of hot sauce,
    1 tsp lemon juice,
and a pinch or two of celery salt for flavor.

Heat ingredients and drink hot."  You can also add honey or worchestershire sauce.

  • Activated Charcoal:  You can purchase this item at your local pharmacy or health food store.  It is often used in cases of accidental poisoning, hangovers, upset stomach, and gas.

  • Apple Cidar Vinegar:  Apple Cidar Vinegar is said to cure many different types of ailments.  The problem is the taste.  If you can get past that, you might find it a helpful remedy.  For daily maintenance, ph balancing, and weight loss put 2 teaspoons of organic apple cidar vinegar in a 16 ounce water bottle and sip.  You should do this twice a day.  On a hot summer day add 1/4 cup of apple cidar vinegar to a quart of water with ice cubes and drink.  It will leave your body feeling cleansed.   In winter months you can put 2 tablespoons of apple cidar vinegar in a mug of hot water and drink three times per day.  By drinking apple cidar vinegar you will notice your allergies will disapear, your face will have a healthy, youthful glow, you will have constant energy and easily digest your food.

  • Apples:  Eating apples, especially the skin can help with sinus infections, heartburn, and bloating.

  • Banana Peels:  If you have a wart, put a piece of blackened peel on the wart and secure with a bandaid.  Change dressing morning and night.  You should see the best results in a week.

  • Cayanne Pepper:  Is good to take to build up the heart and prevent attacks.  It also helps with sore throats, sinus congestion, digestive issues, and gas.  Mix 1 teaspoon in 8 oz of hot water and drink.  You can also sprinkle it on your food.

  • Cloves:  This is an effective remedy for toothaches.  You can rub clove oil on the affected area.  You can also mix clove powder with water and gargle without swallowing.  This is good for a sore throat.

  • Goldenseal:  This is good to take for sinus issues, pink eye, and bad breath.  You can take in capsule form as directed on the bottle.

  • Ginger Root:  Take 2 capsules for nausea.

  • Honey:  This is good for anxiety, tension, upset stomach, coughs, burns, and asthema.

If you have any remedies feel free to add them!  I will update as I run across more.

That's good stuff. I did try the charcoal once, I thought it was worse than the gas. Maybe other people didn't think so though. :-)

Rubbing the inside of a banana peel on poison ivy works well to combat the itching.

@James: I sure hope they work. Beats the heck out of the high prices for antibiotics and dr. bills.

@BadCo: Sometimes the stuff that tastes the worst actually works the best.

@Pete, I've only had to use charcoal once and that was after beig in the hospital and it really helped. But I've heard from people I know who have used it and it didn't work so well for them.

@Kidgas That's a good tip for poison ivy. I will have to remember that.

Thank's everyone for stopping by and commenting.
