Foods to Help You Lose the Dangerous Belly Fat
97Lose the Dangerous Belly Fat
People who carry excess weight around the belly are at increased risk for heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and some types of cancer. Reasearchers at Wake Forest University found that trans fats,* which has filled our packaged processed food products, increase the amount of fat around the belly. These trans fats not only add new fat but move fat from other areas of the body.
It is visceral** fat that surrounds the organs in the belly. When this fat is present in high amounts it is associated with heart disease, diabetes, stroke and some types of cancer. One recent study also found that this kind of weight gain can also increase dementia later in life.
In addition to the poor American diet, and lack of exercise, stress is said to be a cause of this belly fat. Our bodies have been designed for fight or flight. Therefore, it stores some fat around the middle so it can be easily accessed for energy when we are under stress. After we have dealt with the stress, the hormone known as cortisol then tells your body to eat to refuel. While this has worked well for our ancestors, in the case of war or wild animals, we seldom have the need to flee or engage in any kind of physical activity. However, our body still triggers the same fat-storage pattern. And the fat remains around our bellies.
As we move away from processed foods, there are studies that show that certain foods can help us lose this belly fat. Food in its natural state is always recommended rather than supplements. Following is a list of those foods and links to other information.
The Food List:
Blueberries - Recent research from the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center show that 1 and 1/2 cup of blueberries can help reduce belly fat by up to 12 percent. Blueberries can activate a gene responsible for burning belly fat while also turning down a gene that helps to store fat.
Nuts - Research has shown that people who snack on almonds as part of a low-calorie diet over a six month period can reduce their body weight by 18 percent thus slimming their waist line and reducing all over body fat.
Green tea (see link) - According to a study done by the 'Journal of Nutrition' five cups of green tea daily can help you shed twice as much weight with most of the weight being around the middle. The catechins (antioxidants) are believed to boost energy and enchance fat-burning.
Foods with Potassium - Foods rich in potassium are key to ensuring your lean muscles stay in tip top shape. Potassium helps to neutralize acids known to trigger muscle-wasting as we grow older. Adults who eat potassium rich foods have about 3.6 pounds more musce than people who eat the least amount of potassium.
Potassium is an essential mineral that supports cellular health; it is not stored in the body like other minerals. Therefore, we need to include potassium rich foods in our daily diet.
Foods that are rich in potassium include:
- asparagus - it has three grams of fiber which cleanses your digestive system, has 288 milligrams of potassium per cup, and almost no sodium - so no bloating
- almonds - which may explain why nuts, listed above, are good for reducing belly fat
Also:
- prunes
- raisins
- bananas
- a baked potato with skin on
- spinach
- tomatoes
- sunflower seeds
- seaweed (dulse, kelp)
- beans
As well as endives, lettuce, Chinese cabbage, avocado, yams, dates, brazil nuts, mushrooms, turmeric, oranges, onions, apples, lentils, cayenne, cherries, grapes, etc.
Breastfeeding - Yet another of the many benefits of breastfeeding. A study from the University of Pittsburgh showed that by breastfeeding, women can lower the risk of heart disease by 10%. The explanation given is that breastfeeding can reduce belly fat, which stresses the heart.
Probiotics (see link) - The excess of bad bacteria in the belly causes irritation that leads to indigestion and gas as well as fluid retention and bloating. Probiotics will make these symptoms disappear. Probiotics are found in fermented foods like kimchi, yogurt, miso soup, homemade pickles, etc.
* trans fats are partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. This is a fat created by adding hydrogen to vegetable fat. Manufacturers use it because it is cheap and gives products a long shelf-life. It is found in cakes, cookies, pastries, margarine, non-diary creamers, etc. It is imperative that you read labels.
Further, dozens of studies have shown that trans fats is linked to heart disease. Here in NYC legislation has been approved to phase out trans fats used in restaurant kitchens. This is also true in the city of Boston and the state of California. HOWEVER - BE WARNED - a loophole in the FDA's labeling requirements has allowed processors to add as much as 0.49 grams of trans fats per serving and still claim their product has zero trans fats. I see this all the time on packaged products in the supermarket. You must read the label because even if it says zero trans fats - it if lists partially hydrogenated oil - it has trans fats.
** Visceral - refers to the viscera, the internal organs of the body. Specifically the organs within the chest (heart and lungs) or in the abdomen (liver and pancreas).

Hello DeBorrah K. Ogans!
Thanks for the compliment! I am happy to say that my hubs about good health are doing well. I'm so glad to see all of us taking control of our diet and health.
This means I should write more of them!
Thanks again!
BK, this was such a wonderful article. This is one of those articles that I like to, bookmark, copy, and pass on to others, and I will. Your research is topnotch. You know I hate to do research myself, but I love it when others do. Very, very good info and hub.
fastfreta thank you so much for your comment!
I loooove doing research and I am glad you said that. Please do bookmark, copy, pass on and do whatever you want. I'm glad we good people are taking control of our health.
We hub people are so good to each other. We all have something to say and to share. I love that!
Thanks again!
These are good tips for keeping healthy. I'm off to make myself another cup of green tea!
Hello Amanda Severn,
I can join you in a cup of green tea - which I am having right now. Glad you liked the tips.
Thanks for writing!
Chrominium picolanate and L carnitine are good for metabolism too
pomegranate will reduce cholesterol
good information,help me a lot
This is true happylabtails. We just need to remember that fresh foods with those ingredients are the best and not the supplements that we often live on. Pomengranates are a good choice.
Glad the information was useful mike!
Great info, thank you!
Thank you too meech741! Good to meet you!
Five Cups of Green tea? Per day?? Would this be in equivelent to Green tea pills? Or are they not the same? Good hub by the way..
The blog is extremely useful for the persons who suffer from obesity. Thanks for your hub.
Obesity is the problem faced by most of the persons around the world. The above food list could be quite useful for them to reduce the fat. It is a nice hub.
Hello Ms Chievous - for good health pills are never recommended. With the cups I would say it is cups the size of what I had in S. Korea for example - much smaller than the huge coffee mugs we use here to drink everything. Then 5 cups can be easily doable.
Thank you Nisha shan - we have to remember to eat real food once again. Unfortunately here in the US even fresh foods have been altered or are shipped from so far away that there are few nutrients left. So we have to opt for locally grown and organic if organic is not shipped from too far away.
Thank you Shubhadevi - It is nice to meet you. I appreciate your comment.
very awesome blog, you guys should check out my blog im gonna start talkinga bout my weight loss experience.
Hey......... I never knew stress is a reason for fat belly.... Thanks this article is gonna make me eat the right food to do something about the pot belly !
hi....i think most of the food that you've mentioned above are useful for losing belly fat....however...water still play a very important role....without water u cant go far for effective losing your belly fat.....however i would like to congratulate you......you produce a quality hub:)
drodrigues1088 - I'm going to check you out right now. And thanks for the awesome compliment!
Hi again free4india - it was along time before our medical industry understood that stress could kill. But it makes sense - in doing the research I found that the fat lodges around the organs out of necessity so we can be ready for 'fight or flight' and because we don't react physically - it doesn't go away it remains aound the belly -thus the fat. A little pouch is okay - it is that hard solid belly fat that so many American men have. If they were told to suck in their gut - they could not.
Hello michelle.dragon99 - thanks for the compliment about a quality hub. I enjoy doing this because I learn so much along the way - and I like knowing why things happen.
Agreed about water - although I wouldn't classify it as a food but I would classify it as a 'given' - and one of the good things about eating the greens and tomatoes and fruits is that they have a high water content. Then of course the green tea is water. The recommended 5 cups of green tea are close to the recommended amount of water one should drink daily - depending on body size and activity.
Thanks for writing!
I begin have belly when age 25 years old. I try increase my weight but it increase belly only.I am sad and my weight increase as my belly.
I just read an article about how we are a fat nation but we are also starving to death. Our processed food is destroying our health by packing on the empty calories and pounds. It said 80% of our food has no nutritional value - we are just chewing. Thank you for this article - at least it will make us think and know that we have to be responsible for ourselves.
I also just read that doctors should take out a tape measurer and measure our girth. It should go with height and weight.
Thank you for a good article that makes us think about eating healthy.
Hello KyonSOS23 - so nice to meet you. You sound like you are fine. A little pouch for taking deep breaths is fine. It is that solid compacted permanent fat packed around your middle that is a serious issue. Don't be sad!
Hello again June G - what you say sounds familiar. And if we look around it seems to be true. We have so many chronic ailments and our children are getting sicker and sicker from diabetes and obesity related illnesses. We have to stop the madness. Our food comes from overseas so often - how can it still be nutritious weeks later. It's not. And prepacked processed food products should not count as food -but just what it is - junk food!
I read that too about Dr.s needing to measure our girth - it makes sense.
Thanks for writing and sharing information!
I am going to follow what you said and I will return after 6 months to tell my experience.
That would be fun cutedoll!
I'm going to keep up with you and see how you are doing! I am a green tea drinker - have been for many years so while I may have some flab there I can still I pass the belly fat test with a tape measurer.
Thanks for writing!
This is very helpful. Thanks for posting this.
List is a great reminder of the foods your body needs (and can enjoy!) Thanks for helping those of us out there that need to stay focused on ways to be healthier!
This is a great Hub for me because I need to lose my belly fat fast, I weight about 250 pounds and most of it is on my stomach. I will try some of the above things and hope they work. I am walking a lot and it appears to be working but I need some extra help. Thanks for the help.
Thank you for introduction ,it is my new information.
Thank you for the most helpful info! I really love the food suggestions also. Sometimes we all get lazy and the prepackaged is easier, but it also seems like a slow death.
I think I will send this to my facebook if you don't mind.
Nice to meet you Kimbelton22 - thank you for your comment!
Gretchel85 - so glad the list will prove helpful! Good to meet you too.
Uniman you have the right idea. I walk a lot too and that seems to melt the fat off. God to meet you and glad the info is useful.
Hello again KyonSOS23 - glad you came back. I will keep up with you.
Nice to meet you tropicalsilver. I'm glad you found the food suggestions useful. And yes, please do share with all you want. It seems lists do work.
Thank you all for writing! I'm concerned about the flu season and the fact that we have weakened immune systems because of the lack of fresh food in this culture.
I do a lot of green tea as well as nuts but those last couple of pounds tend to want to hand around.
Nice to meet you bengriston!
It seems we all have the same issue - those last few pounds. Maybe we should learn to love them. I believe you men got away with calling them 'love handles.'
Love the green tea! Thanks for writing!
Hi BkCreative,
This is very informative but I just caution that in each of the four blood types available for the human body to adopt, how one can metabolize certain lipids and protiens is the key factor. Trans fat for some is very important because genetically they are geared thin and sinewy so trans fats are more recommended. Although as they age those people also get the mid-roll and if crunches don't do it, leg extensions and chair-dancing work very well to redistribute sitting-around belly bulge.
Again, great hub and keep up the good work ! BTW--I caught you using VINEFIRE to post this particular hub and that is the best news because I came into Vinefire when they just began early March. I love what can be accomplished there and thanks for using it.
Hi enlightenedpsych2!
I'm not familiar with vinefire and will have to check it out. I imagine someone saw this hub and is spreading the word - many people have asked if they could. That is fine because we need to be aware of this belly fat issue which plagues Americans - and is often caused by the introduction of lab made trans fats.
It's interesting that blood types are listed as only 4 - mine is a variation of Type A - but there are more ancient blood types in the world. We work within the range of 4.
I've read that our body naturally creates a small amount of trans fats - maybe that is what you are referring and of course that is fine. But like all the other processed food products created for profit and not good health - we don't need a food product made in a lab. It's always best to go fresh.
Thanks for writing!
Excellent ideas. I'm going to eat more of these foods than I already do. Thanks.
Nice to meet you Deltachord!
I'm glad you like the ideas. I so want to see Americans take back their health.
Thanks for writing!
yesterday there was an ad in newspaper. It claimed that by using an oil belly fat can be reduced very fast.
thought i would share that information here
Hi Vinu,
I think we need to remember that fresh whole food is what keeps us healthy. Fresh food is never advertised - it's always some weight loss gimmick that is advertisied.
There are hundreds of ads for products that will help you lose belly fat. Many of these products are often derived in small part by real foods. But why not eat real food and get all the other health benefits as well?
Thanks for writing and sharing that information!
i like your hub. thats nice info.
So nice to meet you Shahbaz0102! Glad the information was enjoyed.
Thank you!
Awesome information. Thanks for writing this, it will prove to be useful.
BKCreative
Thank you for the info. I love the foods that you suggested. Your hub has encouraged me to eat better.
So glad you like jimmy. I'm glad to see the response. It means we are so ready to take care of ourselves once again. Thanks for the compliment!
Hello jonilynn.
I'm glad you feel encouraged. I do too. As I get older I know I don't want chronic ailments - and due to toxic food products. It's so necessary to demand quality food.
Thanks for writing!
I am not a fat man but try to keep myself healthy. Being obese is not a disease but a state in which body don't use fat because of less workout. One should not pay much attention about being fat, but rather one should try to keep one healthy.
Hi Vizey!
It seems more and more research indicates that certain fat stores are proving to be deadly - such as belly fat, how it got there and the fact that our diet and lifestyle allows it to stay there, around our organs - which is never good.
A bit of a pouch around the stomach should not be confused with the hard solid fat that surrounds many big bellies.
We should always be concerned about carrying too much fat. I don't think any other country has more gyms and more joggers - but the fat remains. Our poor Western diet is the main cause of this belly fat and needs to be dealt with.
very interesting article indeed.
thanks for a great fast read.
Nice to meet you ausetkmt! Glad you found the hub interesting!
Your hub is very enightening especially information about the belly fat, I've been trying to get rid of mines, it's not an easy chore. but I want stop trying. thnaks for help.
creativeone59
You're welcome creativeone59!
You are not alone. Many Americans are plagued with this issue. Stress is one reason and processed foods another. Glad you liked the hub!
Thank Bk creative, I have been reading your hubs. I am not a fat man but I want to keep my weingt under control. Thanks for your advice.
You're welcome Vizey!
Glad you like my hubs. You're interested in prevention which makes so much sense. We have such poor quality food here in the USA and a poor health epidemic. I'm glad to see people returning to real food and not processed food products.
I really need to move more. I don't eat processed food but I do sit still alot. SIGH
Love the SIGH Bryan. By not eating processed food you are way ahead of the game. A little movement and you are fine!
I will be bookmarking this Hub, GREAT Information!!! You did your homework! Blessings!!!

Glad the hub cleared up some doubt for you vannarith!
Thanks for writing!
Thanks, great info. recently lost quite a bit myself... These are excellent tips to keep it off.
(your avitar is wearing my OLD blue shirt - before I lost the weight!)
Nice to meet you steffsings! Glad you like the tips - and I loooove your sense of humor about the OLD blue shirt!
BK, the healthy food sound more delicious too. The thought of transfats is really kind of sickening when you think about it.
Great hub. I love blueberries and wish they were in season all year around. Question: Is it a cup 1/2 a week or a day. Also, losing the alcohol can really help with the belly fat. Thanks again.
So true Delores Monet - our processed food junk is loaded with killer trans fats. We don't need this. I'm so glad to see Americans going back to real food.
Hi J Burgraff! I remember when it used to be called a beer belly - for a reason! Time to cut back on the alcohol. It's a 1/2 a cup a day of blueberries. If I have them on hand - I just grab a handful. I tend to think general advice is for the general (male) population and then we change it accordingly!
Thank you for writing!
Thank you for all the wonderful information. I am not well my health is poor right now due to a brain tumor. I have had 2 surgeries but I still have some of the tumor. But the thing is I have to take steroids and alot of other meds because of my condition well this has caused me to swell up and gain alot of weight. So this information might be just what I needed. I will tell all my friends about this so they can also comment on how informative this was. thank you
Hello Kimberly Bunch! I just happened to be reading your hubs earlier. I'll check back to the one about toxins and bookmark! I love that we are thinking healthy.
Tracy711 - I am so glad you found the information useful. And hopefully, you will continue to eat as many whole foods as possible to help you heal. There is great info right here on hubpages.
Thank you too for sharing with your friends. And take it real easy too!
Nice hub. I've found from experience that just about any food that's low in calories and high in fiber is great for losing belly fat. Thanks for the info!
Thanks for writing quicksamba.
Nutritious whole foods will help you keep your weight down. Potassium-rich foods and certain others on the list because of their nutrients work more effectively in helping to eliminate the belly fat. We need a variety of foods for a variety of reasons.
i'll need to drink more green tea
Honestly zmoney26z - I do feel the green tea works. It's my preferred tea and I drink at least a couple cups per day - and have for years - and there was a time my belly just looked much worse - but now I can hang out with people who have smaller bellies.
Enjoy your tea!
The problem faced by most of the children and teenagers is obesity factor. It has to be reduced by some way. If the way is natural, it will be well and good. Thanks for the hub.
The problem faced by most of the children and teenagers is obesity factor. It has to be reduced by some way. If the way is natural, it will be well and good. Thanks for the hub.
I agree Anandk - when I lived in S. Korea, every meal was real food including breakfast - none of this sugared cereal etc. At lunch time in the schools the children were served real food - a complete meal, a light soup, rice, some protein, a fruit, kimchi. None of this chicken nuggest, sugared juice cocktail, and worse. They do not have an obesity epidemic. An enjoyed snack was cherry tomatoes - not cookies. Our food supply in the US has sickened us.
I hate to go on in a rant - but our children deserve real food and nutrition from birth!
Thanks for writing!
I am going to have to increase my intake of yogurt and a few other good foods - very informative!
Hello trimar7 - it sounds like a good idea. Doing all this research, I have become quite conscious of my diet.
Glad you found the hub useful! Thank You!
:) Lots of useful information !
Thanks you FirstStepsFitness! Nice to meet you!
I was drawn to this hub because of the illustration of the man with the 'pot belly'. Nice one! And very good and informative article at the same time..
Hello hubpageswriter!
So glad you like the man with the 'pot belly' - I think he sums up the hub nicely - even if it was never read!
Nice to meet you by the way. Thank you for writing!
Belly fat is extremely dangerous, the cause of numerous problems like diabetes, heart problems and more, so any foods that help reduce belly fat are helpful.
Exactly right healthgoji - and we are just learning this now, amazingly, that it not okay to have this damaging fat around our vital organs. I read recently, that doctors are being advised to get out the tape measurer and not just think of height and weight - belly fat is an urgent issue.
Men have been cajoled into thinking it didn't matter - while women were called fat, men were called stocky or husky, even told they have love handles. A recent report said men are even fatter than women because we tend to have flab around the middle (from babies) but not that hard fat.
Good to meet you and thanks for writing!
Thank you, BkCreative for the health tips. Men tend to have belly fats because of their(our) vices: drinking, smoking to name a few. (You always answer back the comments of my fellow hubbers. You're so, courteous)
Thank you too travel-man1971. I so enjoy communicating with other hubbers; they come from all over the world. I am learning so much and seeing beautiful photos!
So true about men and their vices - and here in the US men have been led to believe that their fat was harmless - and they were called harmless names like stocky and husky, and big old teddy bear. Even the fat on their sides was just called 'love handles' - women were just told they were fat, but that made us work on it!
So glad to meet you and welcome to hubpages. I enjoyed your hubs and became a fan so I can keep up.
A great informative hub, will give this a try, is it good for diabetics?
Hello Robert Ballard!
While I can't give medical advice, I do believe that a variety of fresh whole foods can only be a benefit to good health and not a detriment.
Excellent hub, thanks. It is nice to see some "good" foods for a change. All we ever seem to hear about are the bad ones.
Nice to meet you Mardi! Good point too - we need to hear about the good foods and not the bad only. How will we know what's good?
Thanks for the comment!
If you want to loose fat, go easy on the potatoes and other carbohydrate rich foods. Eat proteins and fats, no trans-fats which is a chemical cocotion you dont want in your body.
Dont slash carbs completely, but have some carbs on days at uneven intervals. You do need some carbs.
In the end, it is all about putting less calories in than your body burns for energy. All surplus is converted into fat. Carbs are higher in energy than protein and fat when the body converts it to energy or building blocks.
The way to a healthy, fulfilled and lightweight life is easy, but you need to cook your own food from base ingredients like meat, poultry, fish, eggs, vegetables and fruits. Anything else and it probably bad for you.
Yes, it would certainly help 100 percent Bio if we went back to preparing our own foods. That seems to be the missing link in our diet. And yes, the trans fats have been proven destructive to our health.
I'm glad to see Americans finally taking back control of their health and demanding better quality food.
Thanks for coming to hubpages and thanks for commenting!
Wow! How did you guess that belly fat is my problem? I think my issue is not being motivated and lack of exercise, so true! Thanks for the information. Good article. I think you were influented by the Asians.
You guessed it tim-tim!
I have been greatly influenced by Asian people. Having lived in S.Korea, and visiting China, Singapore, and Thailand I got to enjoy fresh foods, locally grown, eaten in season - and they all know the nutritional value of food. The Korean supermarket shelves are not filled with cans and packaged goods - it's mostly fresh vegs. The times I saw serious obesity it was an American.
But we hubbers shall conquer this belly fat issue (and everything else) once and for all right here on hub pages!
So glad you wrote! Thank you!
Well written and cute pic!
Thanks Suzie Parker. I think he makes the point!
Another great hub. I just joined your fan club. Thanks for the great information.
Nice to meet you christophallen! Glad you found the information useful!
You have made my day with this blog, haha. I need to get rid of my beautiful belly.
Oh TheSablirab - I love that you said your belly is beautiful - I am sure it is. We need to remember to always have this good opinion of ourselves.
So happy I made your day too!
Thank you for writing!
I try to make a point of staying positive about my body, but at the same time, try and be realistic about my weight and how it affects my health. And it's nice to read Hubs like yours on what can be done to help reduce belly fat, or tips on how to eat/lead a healthier lifestyle.
I'll say this: Some days are easier than others.
You're doing great TheSablirab! Being positive and being realistic - a perfect balance! Just what we need.
I'm always happy to hear from you!
I'm impressed a 99 score for a hub- of course the information about belly fat is excellent.
Thank you healthgoji! (Sometimes it even goes up to 100) - I'm glad to see Americans returning to real food - for real health!
Thanks for your kind comment!
Hi BkCreative what a great hub jam packed with information and help, I was delighted to see that almonds are good because we have quite a few trees growing wild where I take the dog for a walk. A stray dog that we took in for a while used to help himself to the almonds straight from the tree so I think I will follow his lead and do the same. I also think that I will give the green tea a try how do you drink that is it just add hot water? Being British my cuppa tea always has milk and sugar in but somehow I don’t think the green stuff will be drunk the same way. Lol thanks for the great hub I will definitely try out some of the things mentioned in this hub, most of my meals are already done from scratch being from a generation that didn’t have many processed foods when I was young and who used to grow much of their own food.
So nice to meet you maggs224 and read your comments. Fortunately, I too am from that generation where foods were cooked from scratch so that is most of my diet - and it does make a difference.
Lucky you with the almond trees - they couldn't be any fresher.
Yes, I drink the green tea straight, just pour on the hot water after it cools down for about a minute - you can add honey but I never do. I don't add sugar to teas or coffees because I felt the American diet had too much sugar - and so it became a habit.
Thanks for writing - I am going to come and visit you.
I have lost almost 15 lbs in 3 months. My only secret was to cut back on the amount of fast food I ate, and to not binge of crackers, popcorn etc. I am hoping to add some muscle now that I have gotten rid of some of the fat
Good for you thaninja. There was a time most of us were at a healthy weight - then all the junk they call food hit the market and the obesity epidemic along with chronic diseases hit. We have to stop blaming ourselves for eating what we thought was food - and go back to eating real foods. You are proof it works - and can be painless.
Thanks for writing!
Thanks for writing!
Thank you for an excellent article. This is a very useful health-tip. I believe most of us eat with convenience and taste in mind without really thinking about what we put into our bodies. I will definitely try and eat more of the foods you've recommended (which are very yummy anyway) and watch out for the trans-fat.
So glad to meet you spudnik8!
I've already become your fan. And thanks for your comments. We do eat with convenience forgetting that someone(s) is only interested in profit and not our health.
Interesting Hub. Your ideas are very very good i think.
Thanks.
Thanks for the compliment BDguest. Good to meet you. Real food is good for all that ails us. The quest of course is to find real food that hasn't been sprayed or genetically modified or shipped from thousands of miles away.
Fortunately, we are starting to demand quality!
Excellent research and well established - also an easy read and easy to remember. Thanks!
Thanks The Rope! For reading and complimenting!
Love your hubs Bk. Going to drink much more green tea now. Love the taste of it anyway :)
Thanks edguider and thanks for the compliment. I do believe I am getting positive health benefits from my green teas!
This is a really great starter article for anyone looking to begin eating healthier!
Just remember there's a whole 'nother depth to eating healthier!
Way to go BkCreative!
Nice to meet you and thanks for the compliment! I'm so glad to see us going back to eating real food!
This is great info and a wonderful shopping list for anyone looking to reduce the mid-section.

Thanks for writing tiffany and co.
Thanks for your tips. Keep up the good work! Alexander
Thanks for commenting Big Brother!
Great Hub- such relevant information! Eating well not only takes organization and planning but knowledge. So many foods now claim to be "healthy" when in reality they're not! Thanks for all the helpful info!
Thanks for this hub. I'm gonna pass it on to my brother 'n law who has this and won't do anything about it even though his health is changing rapidly. I hope this will be a wake up call.
Your brother in law is lucky you are looking our for him. Hope the list helps!
So true eeyore4000!It is the knowledge we have to rediscover. Our so-called 'food' is destroying our health. But we are taking back control! I'm so glad!
Thank you so much for your info. I think I will buy some of those food next time when I go shopping.

Your recommendations are right on the mark!
My wife and I can attest.
Thanks for the compliment antoniodias - and the words of support. Nice to meet you too!
I tried to talk my husband Bob into breastfeeding but he just could not get the hang of it! ha ha - great tips though and I was doing all those and it was working great - just found that all those foods did not work well with diverticulosis but then found a great doc and most are recommended if you just stay on a high-fiber diet! Great tips.
This means no more cheetos for me! Which might kill me faster than the belly fat, tho I doubt it. Very good recommendations - it's always great to have these reminders.
Thank you akirchner!I would love it if men could breast feed! Glad this can work for you with diverticulitis! Nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you too SoftCornHippo! Now all we have to do is find real, whole food that is locally grown so it may still have a bit of nutrition - and we'll all be walking around with great bellies! Soon!
I have made my list according to this hub and I am going shopping for my health! Thanks
I'm so glad queenbe! I like how you put it '...going shopping for my health!' Great! Nice to meet you too!
What a great hub with so much good information. I especially liked the foods you listed. I did know of some, but you had so many more. Thanks so much. To your health!
hay, you have chosen the Hot Topic of today's life and good knowledge share with every that person who is conscious about food ... This is a great Hub related Health.
nteresting topics about diet and so on,life is going to be better start from today
Thanks geniusimnot! Thanks for the compliment - and to your health too!
I'm glad it's a hot topic, khmohsin - we have to take care of ourselves. It's made even more difficult because of our poor quality food.
So positive you are sord87 - life will get better with real food.
Thank you all for writing!
Extremely useful article and great tips.
Nice to meet you praveenamuthu! Glad you found the hub useful!
Great hub and I saw on Dr Oz a couple weeks ago, popcorn sprinkled with brewers yeast and Olive oil instead of butter is also a great belly fat buster.
Robert Ballard
Amazing, I thought it would just be about low fat foods, but foods that actually help you get rid of belly fat specfically is great. I'm actually pretty close to being the right weight, but it seems like every single bit of fat that I do have is on my beer belly, so I will definitely look at eating some of these foods.
Thanks Putz Ballard! I just picked up some organic popcorn and I pop it with olive oil - and sprinkle a bit of sea salt. I'll do that later! Maybe this has helped to keep my belly fat down!
Hello Kephira! It seems the low fat foods haven't been good for us if they were marketed that way. Glad we are all taking control of this issue.
So important- I work with elderly- and most all those over 80- have maintained moderate physical fitness- and none are obses.
Glad to hear it sandwichmom! Sounds like keeping weight down increases longevity.
What a Great Informative Hub!! This will be a great news for the people struggling to reduce their belly. A lot of thanks for this great Hub!
I try to snack on almonds a few at a time all day when I start to feel hunger pangs.
This is very interesting & informative - I think that I eat quite healthily i.e. lots of fresh vegetables and very little processed food but I've put on loads of fat in the last two years since a) going through the menopause and b) developing an underactive thyroid!! I'm finding it so difficult to shift but I'm going to follow your tips - especially going to try the green tea :-)
(p.s. I'm new here so good to meet you all)
This was great info and i will be back to read more of your articles.
Thank you ratneevera! It seems we have to re-educate ourselves about eating properly.
The nuts seem to work quite well. And I love almonds too. Thanks for writing Martycraigs!
I'd love to hear from you again Suki C. I love that the Chinese people call menopause the 'Second Spring' - it is a time of great beauty and thought - nothing negative like in the US - so no negative thoughts which are harmful to our health.
Thank you AntioineAllen. Glad you found the information great!
Nice to meet you all and I will come and visit you now! Thanks for writing!
i have a question, on the nuts thing, only almonds? how about peanuts, pistachio nuts, pine nuts? can we use them also? or only limited to almonds.
This is an extremely good health information.
Hello Nurzing Studs! I'd say all nuts are beneficial including pistachios and walnuts, although peanuts belong in a different category (and is one of my favorite sources of protein). I just read that pine nuts have a lot of flavonoids and are as beneficial as the name brand product pycnogenol. Enjoy! And thanks for writing!
And hubpageswriter - I'm glad you found the information very helpful. Thank you for writing!
gr8 tips..........really useful....
I don't know how I missed this article BkCreative - but I loved all the research you put into it. It makes it a whole lot easier to choose the right foods to combat this wide-spread problem. Thanks so much! You wrote about a great evergreen topic - this article is a mainstay on the front hubpage.
Thanks geethakasiram. Nice to meet you too!
Your comments are always valued Veronica Allen - and always welcomed. I love the 'evergreen' comment.
I've be visiting you again soon to check out your great hubs!
hey very good information .
Great info on one of the toughest areas of weight loss! Thanks.
Awesome hub I like how you put it saying shopping for your health.
Thanks Jack!
Nice to meet you Green Things. It is a tough area and I think we are finally figuring out it may be easier than we thought with the right foods.
Love the 'awesome' compliment - thanks sabbatha1!
I have heard that upping your fiber and water will do the trick and that is mostly what is on your list.
Yes, real food has fiber that is lacking in our processed food diet - which also does not have the natural moisture content as fruit, for example. But all foods have different purposes which is why the list has particular foods.
great hub, keep it up!
Thanks bestcellphones!
Alcohol is definitely the worst thing for a belly and as you get into your 30s you can definitely start to see it.
Great hub!
This was a very good read. Nice and simple. Well put. One of my favorite snacks is Greek Yogurt with blueberries and pecans. A delicious assault on belly fat!
I did notice how the fat seem to melt off when I ate berries for breakfast.
I tried some vitamins that were supplements that helped also, but when you do not have the money for fresh food or all those vitamins, then what?
green tea seems the best solution......
Good article, and I agree with the water comment suggestion also, my aunt used the water method and she did indeed lose her belly. I can force only so much water down and I always boil and chill it first, so many things we hear, and I also have lately read white tea is being put above green, so I just have both together and also add orange juice because Of a study my son told me about which recommended half and half with tea and juice but I go with more tea and sometimes just make up a big medley of different types to do me a few days and only add a little oj to the glass as I drink it.
Thanks for the many comments! Yes, I've seen many a giant belly due to too much alcohol - mainly beer, or is it because one beer turns into a 6 pack and then a case and then a lifestyle (sigh) then more?
And yes, green tea is certainly a winner. It has been a regular beverage for many years - and I just don't have that kind of belly fat - so maybe it is working.
And definitely, fresh berries over any supplements. I just read that most supplements on the market are made from synthetic ingredients - we all deserve better.
Thanks for writing. We hubbers are going to be one good looking, trim bunch of writers! Yay!
It is very nice. I am a kid. I have made attempts to write hubs. Please see acupressure for good health, 3 tips for good health, Become young, Children thinking, Grass Leaves, Groundnuts & jaggery, Hard surface, Human behavoir, Jack fruits, Ligament injury, Summer thrust, Vibrant Rose. Thanks a lot, rvsrinivsan
You're welcome! Nice to meet you. I will visit your hubs!
I really appreciate all the research you did about the dangers of belly fat and its main causes. Especially interesting is how stress is a big cause of belly fat because our bodies are designed for "fight or flight," resulting in stored fat around the belly. You give many healthy food choices, especially those rich in potassium that promote lean muscles. This was an important article for anyone who is involved in the battle of the bulge, and it's a wake-up call to do something about it now.
Hello again Weight Pills!
I'm glad you so thoroughly enjoyed the article. I do enjoy doing research. And yes, we are a stressed out culture and those bellies can prove it.
Hope it is useful for people who exercise forever but never change to a healthy diet.
Thanks for writing!
Wonderful hub on foods for losing belly fat! I needed this. Thanks for the health tips.
You're very welcome missmarch! Nice to meet you too!

Thanks for commenting gokrex84!
great article!
Hi BK,
Thanks so much for this informative hub on what foods will help burn the belly fat. It seems like women have this problem more than men do! I have found that as I have gotten older it has been harder to prevent fat from staying around my midsection. I am going to implement some of these foods into my daily diet to see what happens.
Thanks for the compliment, lola likes!
Hello Info Help! I'm glad you found the information useful. I think women are more inclined to have flab around the middle (I've learned to love it!) and not the hard fat that men have. Of course we can all do with out any of it. Nice to meet you!
Thanks for writing!
Moderating your calories and having these healthy snacks such as almonds will really help you lose that belly fat.
Hi Mitch King! I have been living according to what I write and it is making such a difference. By eating healthy and preparing my own foods, my weight stays down and I no longer have to count calories. Eating healthy, keeps me healthy!
Thanks for writing!
Wow! you have given some awesome tips. One can eat and reduce, no need of dieting lol..I do take Green tea daily but not more than two times :)
I've seen it all, and watched my mother try all the fads as they came and went...when I got older and needd to lose weight, the formula is SIMPLE...making yourself follow it is the hard part!
Moderation in food, lots of vegetables and fruit, and workout!
That simple, and it works everytime, even if you fall off the wagon, or food cart, start right back up and it works!
Thanks terrowhite - it's only with the introduction of inferior and processed foods that Americans became obese and sick. I no longer have weight issues now that I rarely eat out and prepare fresh foods more often. We still have a long way to go before we get locally grown quality food back - but it's time to take back our health.
Yes, Jawa Lunk - there is every fad diet out there - but none address the issue of inferior quality processed foods. We are eating garbage - no wonder we have health issues. I've lived and traveled in most places of the world - no one has gyms and fad diets like us - and no one has the obesity issues like we do.
Thanks for writing!
Yes, we should comprehend our bodies.
Agreed EllenGraeger - it is to our benefit! Thanks for writing!
if you have a proper diet you wontr have to worry
So true Sparkeliah! We just have to make sure that the food we eat is real food not GM, or grown somewhere thousands of miles away so it has no nutritional value by the time we get it - in effect we are just chewing!
Great information. Thanks
Thanks rajagiriworld!
So Love this article...and just in time for New Year's Resolution....thanks BkCreative as always!!!!!
You're very welcome FarrahZimer - love your avatar!
Great informative hub! Thank you for sharing! I've often wondered how to get rid of that fat in the middle. I always blamed it on having four children. Signing on as a fan and looking forward to reading some more. By the way, I'm originally from the Bronx!
Glad to meet you Born Again 05! Thanks for the compliment - I am glad you found the info informative.
Nice list. Too many people think there is just some magic exercise they can do or pill they can take. The body will shed fat proportionally from all parts of our bodies as we eat correctly and bring out nutritional intake into balance. Visceral Belly fat is one of the first to go which is good news for people who want to look better. All they have to do is eat right and consume less calories than their bodies burn.
