Foods That Cause Problems For Your Skin
84
Just as there are some foods that can make your skin to look better, there are also some foods that can wreak havoc on your complexion. It really can be quite remarkable how much of a difference what we eat can have on our appearance. Just as after you spend a night tossing and turning you are less likely to look your best, if your diet is not in order the effects will catch up to you. It may not happen right away but over time it will definitely add up. The following foods are ones in particular you should watch out for.
When you have a reaction to food you may also experience some chest tightness, wheezing, shortness of breath or a full-blown allergic reaction. This will occur in individuals who have a food sensitivity so if that is the case, you really must watch out and avoid this food at all costs. You may also want to check with your doctor if you experience very adverse conditions as he or she may be able to place you on some medicine to help you deal with the reaction should you come in contact with the food again unintentionally.
Other foods may just become problematic because they do not react well with your body. You will not see quite the severity of effects from consuming them however they likely should be avoided as well.
Margarine
Margarine is typically very high in trans fats because of its hydrogenated oil content. This is not only very bad for your heart but it also disrupts your natural hormone balance in the body, which plays a role in keeping your skin clean. Just as you may find that you normally get additional skin problems around your menstrual period because of a change in hormone levels, if you are consuming a lot of products that have hydrogenated oil this could also become problematic.
Finally some specific foods that certain people will react negatively include eggs, nuts, shellfish, soy products, red whine, citrus fruits, tomatoes and really hot spices. You will have to judge for yourself how your reactions are to each of these foods. If you are currently having some skin issues try removing these products from your diet, one at a time to see if you start noticing any difference in how clear your skin looks. If you do, you have likely found the culprit and know what to omit in the future.
Milk
Some individuals will notice that their face bloats up pretty badly and looks puffy after drinking cow's milk or other dairy related products. You may also experience stomach cramping and indigestion.
Foods High In Saturated Fat
There is some indication that foods that are high in saturated fat and trans fatty acids increase the sebum production in the body, which in turn increases acne. If you struggle with acne on an ongoing basis, you will really want to pay attention to this and be sure you are rather getting more foods that are lower in fat such as fruits and vegetables. Drinking plenty of water will also help to flush out your system and keep the skin clearer.
Sugary Snack Foods
Sugary snack foods will create issues for your skin because the simple carbs will cause a large insulin spike and then you will come crashing down. This spike triggers an inflammatory reaction in the skin's cells that lead to increased sebum levels that then clog up the glands. This can eventually cause more acne and give the appearance of oily skin.
