Fools Rush In (poetry)

The minute Bush announced even a thought of going to war with Iraq

The insides of me lurched

And at that moment I knew the USA would go

And I knew there would be no victory

Just blood and death and a nest of snakes

That we could neither win nor walk away from

Because the vortex of evil that is the middle east

Will suck the soul out of all who enter

If I could I would move all peoples involved to safe ground

And fence off the whole section of the vortex

And put up huge DO NOT ENTER signs

Because to enter is to be doomed forever

Not that our president has ever listened to visionaries

Even now he can't leave because to leave would be to admit defeat

And ego is a powerful motivator
