Football: Stunting and Blitzing Games From the 3-3-5 Defense
67Pressure, Pressure, Pressure
Once you are committed to using the 3-3-5 defense as your base, you’ll find many, many stunts and combinations you will want to use. The possibilities will be limited only by your imagination. Remember, whether you line up in it, stem to it, or stunt to it, you will end up in some form of eagle defense. The definition of an eagle front is anytime you have three offensive linemen covered to one side or the other or even both sides, you’re in an eagle defense. As you will see right away there are many ways to get there.
You must evaluate your players very carefully as always. You have to find out who can do what stunt and who can’t. Then as unorthodox as it might sound, you have to be willing to send anyone any time.
Naturally, the system you use in naming your stunts only needs to make sense to you and your players. I have seen many different systems. They range from numbering to acronyms. I suggest you use everyday familiar terms that your players know. For purposes of these articles, I simply numbered them.
I have included a few diagrams of various stunts in the photo capsule below.
