Get the Facts-It is Your Responsibility to Educate Yourselves

There has been a lot of talk and gossip about the proposed Health Care Reform Bill known as HR 3200. Tons of accusations are being thrown around about what is actually in the bill and suspected lies or half truths are being spread to incite fear and opposition. Ok, so if you want to know the truth-read the bill.

Visit http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-3200 to read the bill.

Click on summary or full text under the overview heading.

Keep in mind it is huge and could take weeks to read and fully comprehend. You can view a summary as well on this web site, but I recommend taking the time to read it in it's entirety as I feel every member of the House should be required to do so before voting on it.

A couple of sections that have been getting media attention in particular are section 102 and section 1233, among others.

Making Your Voice Heard

One way to voice your opinion whether you are for or against Health Care Reform in general or as it is written in HR 3200, a one payor system or government run health care, is to make your voices heard. It is our right and responsibility to do so.

Visit this site to select your state and see a list of your Senators and Congressmen:

http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/index.htm

Click on the appropriate representatives for your district and send them an email expressing your concerns.

Another way to voice your opinion for or against this reform is to make yourselves be seen by attending functions such as town hall meetings or the upcoming Recess Rally on August 22nd, 2009.

Visit http://recessrally.com/ for details about this event organized in your community.

Now, when I suggest making your voices heard and making yourselves seen, please understand that I am encouraging you to do this in a respectful manner. Please act responsibly and maturely as a representative of your country and your political affiliation, if any.

Name calling, insults and the like will not solve our problems and will only help the opposing side justify their dismissal of our opinions. Speak loudly, sensibly and clearly. Do not yell and scream or curse-in person or in emails and forums or blogs. You are not helping the cause when you do this one way or the other.

I spent all morning trying to figure out exactly what was in the bill after hearing the right and left debate on talk radio, here in the forums, on the news, etc and decided to try and find out for myself so I thought I'd write as non biased a hub about it as I could that would provide the info needed.

Ok, here's a question. I have read 3200 dated 7/14, but there is hr3400 which was released 7/30, so which is the correct one?

I had not heard of HR3400. I'll have to check it out and revise my hub. Thanks.

HR 3400 was introduced 8/3/07 and is called Rebuilding America's Infrastructure. As far as I can tell it is unrelated to the Healthcare Reform Bill.

Why do you say HR3200 is a one payor system?

Hi Jiberish-your link doesn't work above...I'll look into it and let you know what I find out. Thanks.

Hi DJ- I never said HR3200 was a one payer system, but my interpretation is that the stipulations regarding requiring employers to enroll their employees in the government sponsored health care system or face a penalty could eventually lead to that.

HR3200 as proposed is actually unAmerican and a direct assault on the elderly. How can we get that across to the Senators and Reps before the August recess is over...they don't seem to get it. They live in their own little world it seems.

Janice, thanks for chiming in. The only way we can get across to our representatives that we do not want this bill to pass is to respectfully demonstrate, write letters, send emails or fax blasts. I hope you click on the links above and contact your congressmen. Thanks.

I'm glad people are speaking up regaurding this bill, however writing letters to your congressman is very important. Luckily congressman Ron Paul and a few of his congress friends are fighting this tooth and nail, just as he is fighting for our right to self shield in the event that the World Health Organization declares mandatory vaccines for that swine flu outbreak. Did the government forget,...

Thanks for writing this, I did not have time to read it the other night. I agree it is very important to be educated about what's going on, not to just believe the media and all. I never would have known where to look for the info. i am goign to read it, then Ill come back to vote. :) Out of curiousity, what do you consider to be an effective demonstartion? All I ever see around here is honk for peace, and it doesn't seem to be working....

your welcome denisematt. I think writing a letter or email or sending a faxed letter to your state representative or congressman is effective to a point. Certainly voting is important. And showing up at a town hall or similar function to listen to the governments side and respectfully asking questions and making your voice heard. That is all we can do at this point. And PRAY that things go according to God's will

I have a couple of ideas that would save the United States perhaps billions in the long run. You are correct though, that it is far too easy to get caught up in "name calling." I truly fear for our nation though and believe that over the course of the next two decades our nation will be led by thugs because of the one man one vote idea. Some people don't deserve to vote; listen to Oprah on election night -- I arrest my case. >"We will even take the drug addict's vote." Oprah Winfrey on election night.

This is fair journalism, it is a lost art:reporting the news and information fairly and empowering the people. Some major news networks need to learn how to report both sides of the story. Glad to see you are getting it right.
