The Ninja are amongst the most mysterious and fascinating groups ever to have lived. Although the martial art that they practiced - Ninjutsu (and the hand-to-hand combat form, Taijutsu) is taught today in many countries across the world, many of their secrets still remain hidden to most people.
Who where the Ninja?
The ninjas where basically outlaw clans who lived in feudal Japan at the same time as the equally famous Samurai. Japanese society at this time was rigidly structured, with wealth and power belonging to the privileged few who were born into it and protected by their servants and bodyguards - the Samurai. But not everyone accepted the injustices of this society. The Ninja clans were groups of people who stepped outside of this society to create their own more equal society. Being outlaws and 'the enemy of the state' the clans were often forced to make their living through crime, stealing from the rich aristocracy. As they became famous for their stealth and skill in these crimes, leading to the legends of their ability to make themselves invisible, people started hiring them for espionage and assasination - tasks that the Samurai retainers couldn't or wouldn't perform.

What makes a Ninja?
You can see fromt this that to be a Ninja is much more than just knowing their martial art of ninjutsu. Although ninjutsu is an effective martial art, it is not this which fascinates people the most about these ancient clans - it is the stealth, espionage, and other dark criminal skills which are most fascinating, but unfortunately it is these which are the most difficult to learn, as they are not taught in modern Ninjutsu classes which only teach the martial art.

Fortunately there are ways that you can learn these secrets. There are few books on the market which go into these aspects of the knowledge and skills of the Ninja, the best of which I have listed for you below in the Amazon books module, but in all honesy these books, though interesting and good for anyone knew to the subject, are fairly superficial and don't go into any real depth.
The best way to learn these dark arts of the Ninja that I know of is through the 'Underground Ninja' Course. This is an online course created by a reformed Ninja who honed and developed his skills as part of an elite criminal underworld, and it includes many forbidden Ninja martial arts techniques that you just won't find anywhere else.
