Forces of Corruption

In Portugal we faced a period of time when everyone wanted to uncover the forces of corruption. Incorruptible leaders with new and miraculous ideas were trendy.

We lived a controversial period with a famous corruption case where the accused were FC Porto and Boavista FC, two football clubs from the north of Portugal, with allegations that these clubs bought results through the purchase of referee's favors, and bla bla bla! don't want to be exhausting and speak about the case details because it's not the most important now, only some observations which I think are "funny" to say the least. In so many Portuguese leagues over the years, so many disputed games, so many football clubs with different interests and with great influence, the final process ended only with these two accused. Even funnier was that the games observed to sustain the accusation, the reports made by observers, persons responsible for evaluating the performance of the referee on the field, didn't mention any strange events on those matches and even in some of them the teams accused lost their matches. Another good observation is that by this time FC Porto and Boavista FC were the clubs that led the country to success in European competitions. The decentralization from Lisbon is very beautiful but not so much to reach the point that only clubs from the north were being heard across borders!

The verdict for this Forces of Corruption case was the perfect end to this comedy, it came out in the end of the season with a 6 point penalty to the already champion FC Porto ( they could take 13 or 14 if they wanted and the title would still stay at Porto) and for Boavista FC the penalty was relegation!

This would be to laugh if the decision was to punish other club then Boavista FC, my team, but unfortunately we were the chosen for this sacrifice of a pretending cleanse in Portuguese football. Its easy to knock down a football club that everyone already knew about our financial problems and that we don't have a big wave of supporters capable to do a "revolution". The country asked for heads to roll, no matter who they were, so the decision was easy...the weakest die, law of the jungle!

And since then the Portuguese football is clean, all the corrupt people were relentlessly punished. The peace is back!Isn't it?
