The Gremlin EMC2

So if the reports turn out to be true, the new Gremlin EMC2 car will be hitting the Ford Showrooms right around the time the Nissan Leaf is due in 2012. Ford has scooped up the licenses for the former AMC products, Gremlin and Pacer for production in the near future.

The Gremlin is the first out of the gate in 2012 as the American Retro marketing in the US continues. It is the anticipated that Ford will be near full battery capacity at their new battery plants across the US and the rest of the globe.

The vehicle appears to be worth waiting for, but 3 years is a long time and in the EV market, timing appears to be everything. Let's hope Ford gets it right as they hope this 200 mpg car will rival the Obama owned GM Volt .

Key characteristics of the EMC2 include:

  • Zero-emission power train and platform
  • Affordable pricing
  • Distinctive design
    Real-world range autonomy – 200 miles pg.
  • Connected Mobility: Advanced intelligent transportation (IT) system

Additionally, Ford Gremlin is expected to qualify for an array of significant local, regional and national tax breaks and incentives in markets around the world. As an added benefit, because the vehicle has less mechanical complexity than a traditional gasoline-powered car, EMC2 is designed to be friendly to the wallet as well as to the environment.

The Ford Gremlin is powered by laminated compact lithium-ion batteries, which generate power output of over 90kW, while its electric motor delivers 80kW/280Nm. This ensures a highly responsive, fun-to-drive experience that is in keeping with what consumers have come to expect from traditional, gasoline-powered automobiles. Ford's approach makes charging easy and convenient. The Gremlin EMC2can be charged up to 80% of its full capacity in just under 30 minutes with a quick charger. Charging at home through a 200V outlet is estimated to take approximately eight hours – ample time to enable an overnight refresh for consumer and car alike.

Ford's Gremlin frontal styling is characterized by a sharp, upright V-shaped design featuring long, up-slanting light-emitting diode (LED) headlights that employ a blue internal reflective design that announces, "This car is special." But the headlights do more than make a statement. They are also designed to cleverly split and redirect airflow away from the door mirrors, thus reducing wind noise and drag. And, the headlights provide yet one more benefit in that they consume just 10 percent of the electricity of conventional lamps, which helps Ford Gremlin to achieve its world-class range autonomy.

While zero-emission is the ultimate goal, the company is committed to ongoing innovation in eco-friendly technologies that increase efficiency and reduce emissions. As a result, Ford offers a comprehensive suite of automotive technologies, including CVT, Idle Stop, HEV, Clean Diesel, and ongoing research and investment in FCV technology.

Okay, so Ford isn't putting out the Gremlin.  But if they were, how cool would that be?

This article is not true. The Gremlin "facts" are actually based on the Nissan Leaf which is due out in 2012. The 200 mpg...not true either. Though the Leaf will be at 100 miles. (see above link)

I am a Muscle Car owner that just doesn't care for the fear mongering of global warming. YES...the planet may be getting warmer, now cooler some say? But it's arrogant for us to think that we (humans) are the cause of it. Though we can do our part...our part isn't enough if you don't have India & China on board.

If the president really wants to help us? Check into the Ford Fiesta and have him tell us why that car isn't being sold in the U.S.?  It gets 65 miles to the gallon and it's too expensive for Ford to sell it in our country becaues of issues it would take to get here..
