Don't Look Now But Your Paycheck Just Shrank Do you ever keep old receipts in a shoe box? Even if you don't, you've probably noticed that everyday things from gasoline for your vehicle to milk for your breakfast cereal have gone up in price. It's true that the price of things like gasoline fluctuate up and down, but overall, the general trajectory of most things we buy has been going up. In some cases, the price stays the same, but you get less. So that box of 40 candy bars still costs the same, but you're only getting 32 candy bars. What does this have to do with your paycheck? This isn't true for everyone, but for most people, their paycheck isn't increasing in value. In other words, you're earning the same amount of money you were a year ago. This really poses a challenge because if the everyday items you purchase are going up in price, yet your income is remaining relatively at the same level, it'll be harder to make ends meet. You'd be surprised by the number of people who don't understand this concept and who wonder why they can't seem to have enough money to pay their bills at the end of the month. So what's the solution? Realistically, there are two basic options that people have. The first is to find another job that pays more money. But that's a lot easier said than done. The second option is to start working a part time job, or, alternatively, to start a part time business. Again, this is easier said than done. Imagine yourself coming home tired from your day job only to have to go work some second job until 10 or 11 o'clock at night. That doesn't sound very fun, does it? Starting a part time business that you can manage from home makes more sense. At least you'd be setting your own hours and have more flexibility insofar as when you get the work done. While it's true you can try saving more money, that's not entirely practical because we're talking about the price of everyday items going up. You have to figure out a way to make some money money. So find a new job, a part-time job, or start a business. You have to make a choice, because your paycheck is shrinking whether you realize it or not.
