Foreigners In The Philippines

The Filipino people are well known for their hospitality. Very warm and welcoming. Filipinos have become accustomed to the presence of foreigners in the country because a lot of foreigners from different parts of the world visits the Philippines and some choose to stay.

Filipinos, love festivities and food. Half of the population loves to go to the mall and hang out. The malls in the Philippines serves as a park and a shopping mall. When you sit down in a coffee shop, it almost feels like home to you because it is almost a westernized place. People having a chit chat or two, the internet savvy bring along their laptop with them for a free connection and the westernize tongue that speaks like an American native English speakers exchanging their views about anything under the pacific sun.

Most likely, if you are white, whether you're an American or European they call you, "Hey, Joe!" so you have an instant first name "Hey" and last name "Joe." This is a joke but most likely the children will call you "Hey, Joe!", and it usually has continuation that goes, "give me some money." Now, do not get offended and think that you got $tupid written on your forehead. It doesn't necessary mean that you need get your wallet and give them some money. It is just a greeting though it may seem odd.

Just like any other country, there is always a bad egg. Like the hookers and like any other country, nobody is proud of them. For an educated Filipino, it is a disgrace to see them walk around with foreigners. Some are not really hookers but girls as young as 12 and 14 with a grumpy old man (probably retired who's in it for the fun), who thinks that this is their ticket out of poverty.

An educated Filipina woman has more value to herself. She can hang around with a foreigner and talks like their equal. She speaks your language and does not agree with you all the time. She will try as much as possible to defend the integrity of her country. You can call it patriotism but to her it is part of who she is. She would almost outcast the hookers for the bad name they are giving to her country. However, she is aware that their is a line of respect that must not be crossed although at the back of her mind RESPECT is something that you need to earn. Therefore, it is wise to shut up.

Most Filipina's who live in the City are educated and highly competitive in their chosen field. You can call them biatch for speaking their mind and they won't mind so long as the brain goes with it. It takes some skill to be a biatch, you know.

And lastly, this is just my opinion and if you are ofended, call me if you have my number. I am a Filipina, I see this everyday and I feel this, sometimes it's eating my bones. This hub is crying out loud to be written.

For commercial break, I wanna say Hi to my friends, goldentoad and Cris A. Did you miss me guys? The girl has been busy making money. L.O.L

P.S. I missed you too, so I will read your hubs now. heheheh

Hey! You didn't miss me? I am so hurt!

Anyway, nice hub, and nobody around here will call you a Biatch (If they do just let me know and I'll take care of 'em). Obviously you feel strong about your country and there is nothing wrong with that. Thanks for sharing!

P.S. I mentioned you in a hub I wrote, Rocking Joe Wants Me Dead. Unfortunately, you have been implicated in the plot to murder me. I was so surprised and devestated.

It is only of late that I really got to know about Phillipinos.

Earlier somebody wrote a hub about Philipinos who work in the Arabian countries, about how dilligent they are in accomplishing the tasks entrusted to them.

Previously I had the wrong impression of them. As a result I never did visit Manila although I had many opportunities to do so.

Now, on hub pages I find many from the Phillipines who write very well on a variety of topics.

By the way, I am neither an European nor an American. I am not an Aussie or a Kiwi ... what do you think my first and last names would be if I visit Manila? :) :) :)

... and what do you think the "continuing" phrase would be?

Thank you very much for the valuable and opinion changing information.

Er ... just another word before I leave. You see, hookers are part of the economic system, since they provide a service. They should be called service providers without making reference to the "service" they provide. Wink!

:) Don't get me wrong!

Take care!

hahaha. I got you on my mind actually and rockinjoe but I feel the need to get to know you better. I was hoping to add some more of those people that I miss when I'm not around. So I got you now. Somehow, I had a gut feeling that either you and rockinjoe would post the "missin' you" message on this hub.

In addition, I did think of countrywomen and G-Ma as well.

Hey Sheena - I read this and wished my one visit to Manila could have been better - I landed there when there was trouble and couldn't get around. Well, someday..... What I will say though is that you are amongst the nicest people one can meet - and I've met so many. The smiles are always there - in the eyes as well.

I enjoyed the hub Sheena but I did not necessarily agree with all you said. Some day I would like to introduce you to some 'hookers' and let you hear their stories. There are many who would make you proud of their sacrifice.

hi Peter,

I'm sorry but my mind won't change about it. They can wash the dishes or wash clothes but easy money in exchange for morality is not good. Of course, everybody has their story to tell but didn't we all have choices?

In my opinion, they wanted sympathy for telling their story whatever it is. I will never understand how a woman can barenaked in front of stranger for a few bucks.

Just my opinion, so I respect everybody else's opinion as well. I guess the difference is you are a man and I am a woman. Would you feel the same for a man hooker?

My response seem to sound so biatch but please understand, it doesn't go directly to you. Just for the sake of discussion and opinion. Nothing pesonal.

Life is an irony but who isn't? Sometimes widening our already widened understanding will let us see that reality bites. Hard to say but if we are on the "service provider's" situation maybe we'll do the same or do otherwise.

We all have a choice and as always it is us who will make that choice. No matter what your reason is, as long as your heart tells you that what you're doing is wrong then its wrong. What matters most is you don't hurt anybody - that's the bottom line. :-)

I love your beautiful avatar! I also enjoyed your very honest and outspoken assessment of your country. I think the love of food and festivity is more than enough to convince me to visit. :) It's definitely on my list of places I'd like to experience one day!

Thanks for another fun and educational hub!

Melissa G :) hehehe. Yeah, I did miss you but I was thinking that you're like me. Life gets in the way of hubpages and there is little time to check out other people's hub. L.O.L
