Foreigners that enter the United States
77I have lots to say about foreign people that enter into the United States. I don't have a problem when someone from another country comes into the United States to visit a family or friend they have not seen. I feel that foreigners should not have the right to open a business in this country unless they become a citizen of the United States of America. I don't like when they come into this country on a visa and open a business without having to pay any taxes. If your a citizen of this country and you own a business you have to pay taxes of some kind and so should a foreigner that enters and opens a business in this country. Why is it they don't have to pay any taxes and are allowed to take all the monies they earn and send it home to there own country. Foreigners should have the same responsibilites as the citizens that live and were born here.
Another big issue I have is when a foreign person comes to our country, then becomes a citizen and all of a sudden they feel they have the right to make changes according to their own customs and beliefs in their own country. Such as religion, or the way we celebrate our holidays or anything else they disagree with. That really bothers me because if you don't like the way the Americans do things, then go back to your own country and get out of ours. They have no business being here if they don't like Americans and the way we do things. Don't come here, criticize us and then try to change our ways to your ways in your country. Just because they became a citizen, it doesn't give them the right to change the way Americans do things. I have heard that people from other countries do not like America people. They say lots of terrible things about us but they can't wait to come here and live. I would not go to a country If I didn't like the people or the way they did things.
Another important issue I have about foreigners, especially the ones that stay here to live, is when they continue to speak there own foreign language. It is rude and disrespectful to Americans when the foreigner speaks another language other then English. Again, if they want to live in the United States of America then they need to learn and speak the language, which is english. If they don't like our language, then they need to go back home, where ever that is. Speaking english should be mandatory when becoming a citizen. Any other language should not be allowed because the United States of America is a country the speaks English, not spanish, arabic, polish, chinese or any other language. But again our government allows it, even to the extent of making other languages our 2nd and 3rd in this country. There should be no 2nd or 3rd language, there should only be one and that is English. Other countries have only one language which is the language they speak and that is how it should be. If the foreigners have the need to speak there own language, then they should speak it in the privacy of there own home, with there family and firends, but not in public. I can't stand it when I am in public and two people and speaking another language and looking at me while speaking it, I shake my head, turn and walk away, My only thoughts were, "how rude to speak another language when I am standing there". ... My grandmother came to this country from Sweden when she was 18 years old. Did not know how to speak English. Once she decided to stay and become a citizen the only language she learned and learned very well was English and never again spoke Swedish. Once my mother was born my grandmother felt that English was the only language she was going to learn because that is the American language. She felt that once your an American you learn English and only speak English, and that she did. My grandmother loved the USA and when she became a citizen, she then became an American and was proud of it and followed the laws and did things the way Americans did, no questions asked.
Our government needs to stop letting immagrants into our country to live and work without becoming a citizen.

Wow. This article was....interesting. I totally disagree with your views on foriegners. I think it is okay for someone to speak thier native language. It is not hurting anyone and that is the language of thier original home. Also english is a hard language to learn so it takes awhile for you to learn it, be able to speak it, and write it, and have intelligent conversations. I would be very sad if I lived in a country where speaking my native tongue (english by the way) was restrictes Also the United States was built on the backs of people of all races and ethnities who spoke different languages. (EX: European, Asia, African, etc.) We should embrace all the different languages and cultures in this world.
I totally agree with the English speaking part to a certain point. To become a citizen of the United States on the many searches I have done on becoming a citizen (just to see what people have to learn to become a citizen) you MUST be and I quote
"Able to read, write, and speak English and have good
knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government."
Some sites say basic or simple English. That was taken off of the US Citizenship and Immigration Service Government Website.
I don't care what language they speak as long as they can speak English. I know people that have come to the United States and became citizens and they had to learn English. Now their English is not real great but it is nice that when I talk to someone they can understand me and I can somewhat understand them.
I'm not gonna take a vacation to well for example we'll just say France or Germany and not have at least some kinda way be it a translator or another form that has the language. If I go and just speak English I won't get very far and will be disrespecting their country. The same should hold true for the United States you come here at least have some way that you can communicate with citizens because not everyone can speak multiple languages and I feel it is disrespectful.
Listen, I understand that foreigners can be frustrating. However, if you are going to bash on them and the U.S Government, take into account your own actions. If you go to Canada, you aren't expected to speak French-Canadian. I hope that you don't plan on visiting any other countries without becoming fluent in their languages, because if you did you would be a hypocrite. Sure, speaking English in the United States is important, but considering it is "the land of the free," there shouldn't be only one way of doing things, which is essentially what you are suggesting. Also, if you're going to bash people who can't speak English fluently, you should learn how to write it properly, you have terrible grammar. As far as opening a business goes, a foreigner who wants to open or branch a business into the United States must invest at least one million dollars into it and have at least ten permanent U.S. citizens as employees, which would boost GDP, in turn helping the economy.

hot topic, but I totally disagree. If you operate a business in the US you need a license and have to pay taxes. About the language issue, I think that originally there were hundred of Indian languages that were here first and here in LA, they spoke Spanish before English. Many a good people are just trying to do right for their families and they aren't asking for handouts, but just an opportunity. Working in the construction industry I encounter many illegals, but I don't hold it against them for wanting jobs Americans don't. I think for us to care so much about the English language is fast becoming a lost arguement as people across the world, via internet, are embracing each other's language and culture.
