Portuguese word of the day: "Fotos"

Fotos

As you can probably guess, "Fotos" can be translated into "Photos" in English. The word is used in much the same way as it would be in the English language. It is the prefix of several other words, like for example:

  • "fotocópia" which translates into "photocopy"
  • "fotocopiadora" which means "photocopier"
  • and "fotografia" which means "photography"

"Fotos" is a plural noun of the feminine gender and is a more common word in Brazilian Portuguese than in Portuguese from Portugal.

A typical use of the word in a sentence would be:

"Tirei umas fotos de Portugal muito bonitas"

Which translates into:

"I took some very nice photos of Portugal"
