Frank Zappa's Career
55
Frank Vincent Zappa
In a music career that spanned nearly 30 years Frank Zappa produced some 60 albums with Freak Out with Mother of Invention being his first release in 1966. Was Zappa's style Jazz or Rock ? His musical scores, most of which he composed himself were an artistic flare of avant-garde mixture. It was somewhere in between Rock, Hard Rock, Jazz, Big Band, Doo Wop, and modern classical with a bit of everything else tossed in for good measure. The sounds of Frank Zappa might best be described as an orgy of styles which might best describe the man and the lyrics which often might be termed pornography for the ears. In fact the Zappameister did do a six month stint in the cellars of moral detention for a "conspiracy to commit pornography charge". He was charged after taking a payment from undercover cops who posed as guys looking for some dirty sound footage for a stag party. Love him or hate him, Zappa was a classic act on and off stage and carried a grimoire or occult-like type personality well. The spontaneity of his actions and is ability to improvise could have you believe that he had a factory of personalities in the closets of his freak mind willing to fill the voids of his shortcomings. He would later in life find himself defending his lyrics against what he believed to be extortionist who were using censorship has a means of exploiting the artist. If you liked Frank Zappa when he was living than you likely continue to like him now. He was charismatic enough to influence that type of cult mentality in the public. If you didn't know who Zappa was before he died or until now then most likely listening to his music will have you coming back for more.
The history of music will keep him alive in legacy.
Joe's Garage
Love him or not
What if music was made illegal ?
Joe's Garage is a late 1970's Frank Zappa rock opera that looks at that possibility and it has stayed alive through musicians who will continue to tell Zappa's story.
