Freaks and Fire: The Underground Re-Invention of Circus

Phil Hollenbeck, along with writer Dee Hill, produced "Freaks and Fire: The Underground Re-Invention of Circus" through New York publisher Soft Skull Press. Traveling across the country from Texas and Arizona to California, Washington & New York, Hollenbeck's powerful images bring to life Hill's words, a creative concoction that takes the reader behind the scenes of America's hipster youth interest in the odd, freaky and oft humourous world of this new genre of circus, side show and vaudevillian performers.

The photographs:

Phil Hollenbeck's stunning underground circus images will make their first large scale debut on Thursday, May 15th, at the Liggett Studio, Tulsa Oklahoma, in conjunction with the Blue Dome Festival. All images are reproduced 2 x 3 feet as a limited edition on canvas.

The show will then move to Dallas and Granbury, TX, opening late summer and fall.
