Free Copy of Credit Report

I would not believe you if you said you had not seen at least one "free credit report" commercials with those goofy guys dressed up in crazy outfits. They want you to get a free copy of your credit report. They are all over the place. You can even check them all out on YouTube if you wanted. Love them or hate them, they are talking about something we should all be aware of. And that is our credit reports and credit scores. When you have this information you will be a smarter consumer.

And that is no small statement. The information in your credit report is used to give you a credit score. And your credit score be it high or low is what a lender would use to approve or not approve you for a loan or credit card or even insurance or even a job in some cases. That is why it is so important to know what is in your file.

Depending on which statistics you read a good majority of consumers have inaccurate information in their credit reports. The credit reporting agency is not going to tell you that the information is wrong. It is up to you to notify them that they have incorrect information and then they will investigate and correct and delete it as necessary.

But if you don't have your credit reports you will be in the dark and possibly paying more than you should be in interest and finance charges.

So how do you get a free copy of your credit report?

You can request it for free from the government's website at annualcreditreport.com. Here are you will be able to request all three of your reports from the three different agencies each year. It's a good idea to space out your requests every four months so you can monitor your credit report regularly.

The only thing you will not get for free is your credit score. You have to pay extra for that. It will cost you around $10 for each credit bureaus' score.

If you don't feel like paying $30 or more to see your credit scores then you need to go to sites like "go free credit" and "free credit report." They will give you a free copy of your credit report and credit score along with their free trial of credit monitoring. Just be sure to read the fine print and you can cancel the free trial and not be billed.

Then once you have this information, review it and dispute and correct anything that is incorrect. Then do it again in four months to make sure accurate information stays on and inaccurate information stays off.
