Free Credit Report.com is a scam
57If you haven't already gone to FreeCreditReport.com, you might have no idea but these guys are a continuous scam just to get your money and not do a thing about your credit. They are not free in any way. Allow me to go more in depth about this.
Most people probably have visited the website because they needed a credit report for one reason or another, simple as that. You hear the catchy little jingle in your head and decide to go there. First, you go and enter your personal information, as well as a credit card number that "will not be charged", which will indeed be charged after the trial is up. Of course, you trust them so you entered in your personal email address that you check often which little to your knowledge will get blasted all day long with spam. Then, you continue to your credit report only to find out that the only information that you are getting is the information that is entitled to you by the credit reporting agencies on a yearly basis. You could have gotten this information by doing a few Google searches anyways.
But wait, that's not it. After they charge your card they will continually "monitor" your credit to ensure nothing goes wrong. Little do most people know, in doing this they are running credit checks which actually decreases your credit score and softly screws you over in time.
Their marketing strategy is very clever, I must give them this. They seem to catch many you individuals with their catchy jingles and young faces which grabs them because they know nothing about finances. The jingles also catch the attention of all other ages because you simply can't get the song out of your head.
If you need a credit report and are paranoid about identity theft, I suggest that you get your yearly update from the credit reporting agencies such as Equifax and Transunion. One of the only companies that I have seen that offer a great free service is GoFreeCredit. This is, of course, if you prefer an easy method of grabbing this information in a 1 stop shop website.
If you have had experiences such as this or know of any other ways to get your credit reports, definitely post a comment. Hopefully this will assist a lot of individuals in the future.
