Meet Dr. Oz

The Show

Recently I was watching the the new Dr. Oz show, and the topic was "free clinics". What he was referring to was he and the Free Health Clinic, of Houston Texas, hosted the largest non-disaster relief free health clinic ever.

This basically was for people living right now without health insurance. In a 12 hour period they saw over 1,780 people. Amazing! With over 700 volunteers.

As of Wednesday Oct. 14th 2009, some 86.7 million Americans are without health insurance. That is unacceptable in my opinion.

Free Clinic In Houston

The Health Stories.

I have to admit the people Dr Oz and the clinic volunteers helped was quite touching.

Like the little girl brought in by her mother who seemed very sedated for a 14 month old. The mother couldn't get her to a doctor because she had no insurance and very limited income. After the doctors checked out the little girl they found out she had a hole in her heart that was very serious.

And the Grandmother who finds out she is functioning on only 25% of her heart capacity.

Or the gentleman who was laid off in 2008 lost his home and the ability to pay for health insurance. Comes in with very serious symptoms of possible colon cancer.

The Little Girl

The Out Come.

Luckily the out come for these patients had a happy ending. With help from the volunteers and specialists, all these people will get the treatment they need at absolutely no cost to them.

What a wonderful thing to see finally in our country, doctors volunteering their services to Americans! It's nice they go to Africa and all the third world countries to help, but so much help is needed here, now more than ever.

The National Association Of Free Clinics

Get The Word Out

In closing I just wanted to say how touched I was by some of these stories. You can see for your self the videos at Dr. Oz

But the message I really want to get out there is, if you find yourself in the position of having health issues, and don't have the insurance or money to get adequate help and treatment, please do not be ashamed to go to the nearest "Free Clinic" in your area. That's what they are there for and these clinics are for you and your loved ones! " Absolutely free"

To find your nearest clinic, go to Free Clinics click on find a clinic, choose your state in the drop-down box and a list of your clinics will be provided.

Please use them, there should be no excuse not to get help anymore.

For those of us who are fortunate enough to be healthy and have coverage and would like to donate, you can do so by going to Free Clinic and click on the donate now button.

In this time of economic and health crisis we need to come together and help one another more than ever! I would appreciate any help in getting this message out to as many Americans as possible!

If you have any other free help suggestions please feel free to leave a comment or link to this hub. Thanks.

Free Clinics are great, and Oz is awesome. It's too bad so many use emergency rooms for minor ailments, It's driving the cost of Health way up. Good Hub.

Good Article. We have a free Clinic in Holland, MI called City on a Hill. It is awesome that these physicians volunteer their time to help those without money or insurance. I'm glad there are professionals that are not only gifted but they have a heart too.

I have seen Dr Oz on Oprah. He is just amazing! I would watch him all day. It's incredible to have so many people in the USA who have no health insurance? What is the solution? I know USA has food vouchers. How about redeemable health vouchers or health credit system based on how much people earn? Just my random thoughts! Very impressive Hub!

I just happened to catch this Dr. Oz show - these illnesses in our society are just mind boggling. Worst of all - we have come to accept chronic illnesses as a way of life - or for getting older. So wrong.

Seems we still have a long way to go before we realize there is no magic pill to save our health - but proper nutrition has long been proven to work.

Thanks for the info about the free clinics!
