Free Internet Dating
49If you are looking for a free internet dating site, you should consider the following: do you want a free or paid membership and do you want to try several sites to see which one best suits your needs.
There has been so much talk about whether paid memberships are better than the free sites. The argument is that the quality is better on the paid membership sites than the free online dating sites. There could be a hint of truth to that since some of the sites accept virtually everyone that joins. Also, since it is free, you do come across some scammers. This happens on the paid sites too!
Many people wonder whether they should stick with one dating site or to try several. It is better to sign up for several free internet dating sites since you will have more opportunities to meet people and also see which one suits your needs.
The best way to search for a dating site is to search on Google under the terms Free Internet Dating Site, Free Internet Dating Sites and Free Online Dating. Try to stay in the top 2 pages of Google and you can usually find some quality sites to select from.

This is a new hub for my http://www.allsinglesmeet.com
I prefer paid dating sites, for the simple reason that if someone has to use their credit card to keep participating, the site has some record of who they are and therefore, some way of tracking them down. That may discourage those with malicious intent - maybe not a lot, but every little helps.
I met my partner on a (paid) internet dating site so I'm a big fan. But if someone is serious about finding a partner, they should be prepared to make an investment in doing so.
I have tried both. I dated 2 people off of "paid sites" that had criminal records. One had been in jail with felony charges for more than 2 years. The other one had been arrested for stalking and had 2 restraining orders against him.
Also, try to get the dating sites to give you personal info of someone.. forget it. The guy with the felony conviction also has 2 completely different dating profiles in 2 states. When I called this "paid" dating site to ask if it was the same person, the said it was not!
Ouch! Poor you. I wouldn't expect any dating site to do background checks on their members - and wonder how you found out about the two guys you mention.
There's a risk in dating anyone, including someone you meet at a party or in a bar. If someone you met in those circumstances robs or assaults you or worse, you have no way of tracing them. All I'm saying is that a paid dating site would be better able to assist police than an unpaid one.
Yes it does seems that there are many, many free sites now. However, I'd say that people's chances of meeting someone they click with would be greater on the paid sites (as long as they've got lots of members). The reason for this is that if someone's paid for something, they'll probably take it more seriously, to get their money's worth. The completely free dating sites would have a higher proportion of people who just joined because they felt like it at the time.
You know, I think I prefer the free version. Why? One reason would be because you can be sure the girls (I'm a guy) would not scam you; if you for instance register for an account (around 3 months at most), girls would assume that you are rich and that you are looking around for a girl to love. The girls would then scam you for what your worth.
On the free version, the girl has to reveal her true purpose to the guy and the guy could simply ignore her.
Here's an article detailing the disadvantages of online internet dating :

In general terms (and as a man) I would say that you get what you pay for.
Pay nothing and you generally find the standards are lower.
The ultimate aim of a dating site is to, er, lead to a date. If people have paid a subscription (and it doesn't have to be that expensive really) they have sent a message that they will at least entertain the possibility of coming out of an endless cyber shell of emails and MSN conversations....and actually proceed to a DATE.
But free sites do give you a chance to practice your profile writing, find a formula that attracts attention, and give you a "risk free" (financially speaking) way of checking out whether the internet dating scene is for you.
For anyone that's interested I have a hub which looks at common dos and don'ts for ladies in profile writing.
