Free Internet Pet Health Product Recalls Buyers

To Mollie and her Boston - my prayers are with you....

There have been no Official Pet Food Recalls since the historical pet food recalls that began in March 2007. The 2007 Pet Food Recalls ended in November 2007.

Why do cats and dogs continue to show signs of ingesting contaminated pet food, become sick, and die? Just as they did during the Pet Food Recall one year after the Pet Food Recall began?

I am going to begin this article with a bit of information about how the Pet Food Recall began and what happened during the Pet Food Recall of 2007.

Cats were first affected by the contaminated pet foods. Cats and Dogs which were fed a diet of contaminated pet foods began showing signs of eating a toxic menu:

Severe Signs:

  • Cats and Dogs drank extra amounts of water
  • refused to eat contaminated pet foods
  • passed blood in the urine and stools
  • vomited
  • became weak
  • suffered seizures
  • renal failure (kidneys shut down)

Few lived. Most died.

Lesser signs of eating contaminated pet foods include:

  • skin irritations
  • excessive itching and scratching
  • flaky skin
  • fleas
  • fever
  • ear infections
  • hair loss
  • dental disease
  • bad breath
  • ulcers on the skin
  • hot spots on the skin
  • tumors
  • weight gain
  • enlarge kidneys
  • enlarged liver
  • paw licking
  • biting at the tail area
  • sore and splayed feet
  • softened nails
  • excessive nail growth
  • matted hair
  • displeasing temperament
  • chronic digestive problems
  • bloat
  • seizures
  • heart disease
  • hyperthyroidism
  • blindness
  • deafness
  • death

The Pet Food Recall of 2007 has come and gone. Date is one year later. I, as a pet groomer and publisher, receive dozens of telephone calls, emails, and comments every day, informing me of pets still suffering from the same symptoms as the pets did during the Pet Food Recall. Pets are showing signs of eating contaminated pet foods. No additional information has been provided by the pet food companies as to why our pets are suffering and dying just as they did during the Pet Food Recall.

I do not expect we will be seeing any contaminated pet food information provided by the pet food companies or their marketers. Should a pet food company decided to join in a Pet Food Recall the pet food company would be accepting responsibility for providing contaminated pet food to our pets. Financially, accepting fault would be a very costly move.

It is my intention to provide information about the Pet Food Recall and the effects of eating contaminated pet foods (still on the market today) through weekly publications on this site. I will link all my articles back to this page for easy access. Check back every Sunday for the most recent publication. I have a full time job so I have responsibility to my work. I produce this site in my free time. The information about the Pet Food Recall of 2007 and the contaminated pet foods still on the market is quite extensive. Given these two factors I am able to produce Pet Food Recall Information pages only weekly.

Please feel fee to drop a comment on these pages or via my email. I check both daily.

My cat, Black Velvet started getting sick around the 10 of February. He started throwing up constantly. I thought it was fur balls at first, as he kept his appetite. Then he started upchucking mainly water with the cat food in it , which had bright (almost glowing colors in it (red, green, etc) looking undigested. I took him to vet on the 12th, they checked him for everything, exrayed and gave enemas, checked his blood for everything, and found nothing. I left him there till Friday. They said he was just curled up and resting, eating and seemed fine, when I called about picking him up. We got him home, and he started eating, but then the vomiting w/bright cat food again. By the 18th/19th, he stopped eating and is just laying around. During this time I thought about the new type of cat food I had bought about a week or so before this all started, FRISKIES SIGNATURE BLEND. I offered him another kind of food, he still isn't eating, or drinking and has nothing to vomit ! What can I do? I had no idea that it could be connected to a cat food, the vet didn't ask what he was eating, Only gave me a bill close to $400. Help, what can I do?

Barbara,

Remove all corn, wheat, and soy from your cat's diet ASAP! Try a little bit of yogart to settle his stomach. Offer as much water as possible and a pet food without corn, wheat, or soy.

Please keep me informed.

I just received an email about Nutro dog food recall. I called my Vet, they had not heard anything. I checked with Petsmart, where I buy Nutro for 5 dogs and 1 cat. They did not know anything about a new recall. One of the managers said with all the recalls last year, Purina was the only brand that did not get recalled. I have bought Natural Choice with chicken meal, rice and oatmeal for sensitive stomachs for years. I am really upset! I bought Purina One Lamb & Rice formula for the dogs & Purina Cat Inside formula . None of them are real happy. Two of them are eating very little. Three dogs & cat are mine and 2 dogs are fosters. I have told so many people about Nutro because it was preserved with Vit. E and very natural products. Can you trust any of the brands?

I just put my springer spaniel to sleep Friday March 15,2008 due to kindey and liver failure. I was feeding Pedigree small chuncks, I have 3 other dogs and I found this site and I will be going to the store to buy a safer brand of dog food also my cats are eating Special Kitty from Walmart and that will be replaced. I can't prove it was the dog from now that I had her cremated but with all these letters I'm sure it was. I miss my beloved pet and I hope someone pays for this and all the other people that have lost a beloved pet or are going threw treatments to make them better. Thanks for your site and God Bless you for all the hard work your doing to keep us all informed on the pet food business. Hugs, Kathy

Kathy,

Thank you for your kind words. I'm very sorry about your Springer, they are wonderful pets. I own a grooming shop and I really enjoy working with the Springers.

I have lost a Siamese cat, Boxer dog and my American Bulldog was affected ... but, hope no damage.

I had a conversation with the pet food company and they were going to reimburse me for the "living" pets vet bills in 2007 and now in 2008, I am getting no response from them.

This is very confusing. They are responsibile for murder and chose to stop communication.

Patricia,

This is very disturbing.  I was in court Friday with 23 pet food companies and they seemed to be very confused as to why we would care that their products are killing our pets.

These pet food companies know that corn, wheat, and soy will kill cats and dogs and cause great harm before it kills them.  They don't care if it kills the pets as long as the grains provide the protein needed to produce the food (pets are meat eaters and should have the protein gained by beef, chicken, etc. - not toxic grains).

I have several dogs with red sores and skin on bellies and legs-it is gooey and makes them feel hot to the touch. It also causes thick dry callouses on feet and elbows-is this a dog food allergy? They are collies which are sometimes sensitive to a lot of things-they are related.

Carol,

What you have described is what we see every day in the grooming salon. Take the grains out of the diet and the hair will return, the coat will shine, flaky skin will go away, the mottled skin will turn natual color, the paw licking will end, the butt biting and scratching will stop, fever will reduce, head shaking will stop - all within 6 weeks or sooner.

I am distraught over everything I've read about dog food and I'm not sure what I should be feeding my puppy anymore! I've been feeding my 4 month old Papillon Merrick Puppy Plate. Do you know if this food is safe?

I'm also concerned about the Nutro Natural Choice Chicken, Rice and Oatmeal Formula for puppies. It was included on the FDA recall list in April. Is it safe for consumption now? My parents feed their 4 month old Maltie-poo this food. The UPC code on their cans is different from the one listed on the recall list, but how can we know it's a different product and not just repackaged?

I have 4 cats that are indoor cats and do not go outside. 3 of my 4 cats have been throwing up all over the house for about 3 - 4 days. They appear to be just throwing up catfood. I have been feeding them the Purina catfood for Indoor cats and the oldest cat I have been feeding Purina One for older cats with Yogurt in it. I am puzzled that the youngest cat is not throwing up, only the older cats. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms?

I happened upon your website by researching dog food. I have an almost 2 year old (9/25) Brussels Griffon. He has been on expensive name brand dog food since I brought him home at 6 weeks old. Budget being little snug right now, I opted to try him on a new dog food The Good Life Recipe. Can you tell me if this is going to be good for him or bad for him. What other brand would you recommend? It seems everything out there has wheat, corn or soy of some sort in it. I spend almost half an hour reading labels in the store before opting for this Good Life Recipe. I want to give him what will keep him healthy, happy and around for a long time. It took me almost 3 years to get him after my Springer Spaniels passed. I still grieve them, don't want to lose my little guy before I should by giving him the wrong dog food. Thank you so much for your input.

I thought that the tainted (poison) pet food horror was behind us. What happened? Did manufacturers simply return to using the same ingredients that they find profitable, whether rice gluten, wheat gluten, or whatever? Are there no new inspection policies in force? My dogs got sick about 1-2 weeks after I switched them to Purina One Large Breed Puppy. Befoore that, they were on Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy. On Sept. 5. 2008, two dogs developed severe, watery diarrhea with bright red blood. Another dog was sick with the same symptoms on Sept. 7, 2008. Is there currently another recall or advisory? HOW DO I KNOW WHAT IS SAFE TO FEED MY DOGS AND CATS?

I switched my 10 mth GS to Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy. This is the second bag I've bought. Shortly after starting the second bag my pup stopped eating and lost 8 lbs in a very short period of time. She turns her nose up at the food and became lethargic. She wouldn't play, wouldn't come to anyone, just laid around. In addition, both of our boxers, who can't leave the puppy food alone, started throwing up and developed very soft stool. The one boxer then had diarrhea with very bright blood, not just a little blood in the stool but a puddle of blood with some stool in it.

In the last couple of days I've switched my GS to hamburger and oatmeal to get her weight back on and settle her stomach. She's perked up and is playing again. She still won't eat the Nutro dry which make me suspect there is something wrong with this bag of food. Has anyone else had problems with this food? What is a good food for a fast growing GS?

Sharon  says:

I had the same problem with my dogs with the Nutro Natural choice,They had been eating it for a year and was doing good on it then we noticed the vomiting the yellow bile, they were lethargic, the very soft stools. And they were refusing to eat it,So i looked up nurto Natural and found all kinds of complaints from peope about their pets getting sick.I emailed nutro with a complaint and they emailed me back over a month later saying they had no probs with their food.Anyways i took the bag of nutro back and got my money back and switched them to purina one for large breeds and they have been doing good. And no more soft stools.

Go here and read the complaints on nutro .

Please do not buy the dog and cat foods in the supermarket! Go to a store like PetCo or any pet store which carries top quality food like Wellness, Canidae, Natural Balance! Ever since the petfood recall I have done research online regarding what's in pet food. You do not want to feed your dog or cat foods that are selling at the big chains such as WalMart or at the supermarkets. They are loaded with corn and soy and preservatives such as BHT and Ethoxoquin. These preservatives are posion to our pets. You can also go online to Petfood.direct to purchase top name brand dog and cat foods. Read the labels before you buy any dog or cat food. So far, the only decent dog and cat food I have seen in the supermarkets is Newmann's which is organic and an excellent quality pet food. If we don't buy the other brands maye they will go out of business. TV ads are deceiving making us think we are feeding our pets the best and it isn't so. I have two toy poodles and they suffer with allergies. They are on Natural Balance Duck and Potato and it does wonders for their allergies. Enough is enough, do some research online and see what is really in the pet food! You will be amazed and disgusted! Do yourself and your pet a favor, and buy a good quality pet food. It costs more but in the long run your pet will be healthier and live a longer life!

We recently switched our two cats which have grown up on Purina Cat Chow. To Friskies(made by purina) indoor cat formula. After about one week my 9 year old cat is now dead. This cat has never been outside, had been full of life up till this morning and now I am questioning what could have caused this. I have heard about these recalls and as of now I am really distrurbed at the amount of reference to Name Brand pet foods. This has forced me to tell my 3 year old daughter about death. And put an overall somber feeling in this happy home. I hope that these posts are read by the masses with pets and something is done. I am sure that our animals are not being fed with quality ingredients and the profiteers could give a rats ass.( which is probably what was in the food.)

Concerned,

Thanks Sharon. It's nice to know I'm not completely crazy. The same symptoms describe what was going on with our dogs. I switched her to TOW and she loves it. She's acting like her normal lunatic self again. Tractor Supply is refunding my money for the Nutra.

Marie...I bought the first bag of Nutro at Petco. Just because it's a pet store does not mean it sells good food. Petco is a large chain store no different than a walmart. I bought the TOW at a local pet store, rather than Petco, and asked her advice as she personally reads up on the foods to make sure they are the best.

We have been using Pedigree for years but last the last few months our dogs have been getting diarrhea & have been all but refusing to eat Pedigree dry or wet products. Then the worst happened last Wednesday...after feeding our three year old Aussie....he began drinking more water than usual...then he had 2 seizures in a row immediately after ingesting his Pedigree food. He was a perfectly healthy dog until now.We have taken him to the doctor...he has run blood test & advised us that the seizures were not system or metabolic based...our vet has suggested it could be low levels of toxins...he has now advised us not to feed our dogs Pedigree any longer We were also informed this morning that some of the pet stores have been recalling Pedigree products....one being Pet's Mart....where we were buying Pedigree....but Pedigree website (Pedigree.com) as of tonight doesn't mention that recall at all...but Pet's Marts website doesThis scares us....the silence scares us....after years of using Pedigree, we will no longer continue to buy this product We are interested in doing something about the way dog food is made & sold...it's a same that our loving pets are being perpretrated by these companies. What can we do...how can we get involvedWe cooked our dogs first meal tonight for the week...we may never go back to store bought stuff...the petstores are the worst carriers of tainted food

I switched my 5yr old Maltese mix to Purina ONE Natural Blends Chicken & Oat Meal Formula about 2 months ago. She has been dead now for 2 weeks. She began acting funny and would shiver uncontrollably as if she were afraid or cold. Then she began to hide under our bed and would not come when called, which is highly unusual. Then she started to vomit and became extremely lethargic. I didn't think anything about the water consumption at the time, but in retrospect I was filling her water bowl more frequently that usual. I took her to the vet at the onset of these symptoms and her labs came back normal. When she got worse and began having trouble walking I took her back to the vet and she had to have emergency surgery to remove a blockage in her colon. After surgery, she began having explosive bloody diarrhea and had to go to a critical care animal hospital for round the clock care. While there, she received two plasma transfusions for her critically low protein levels, antibiotics, liquids and valium to calm her seizures and also developed peripheral edema. She died after two days. It never occurred to me that her food was the cause of her illness until her vet told me that she must have ingested toxins. I thought I was giving her a better quality food but I was grossly mistaken.

We just recently rescued three baby kittens. Their mother had abandoned them. At out local pet store we were given Chicken Soup for the Kitten Lovers Soul. The ingredients looked great. I was very inpressed with this. I found your Safe Food list and found that this brand of cat food was deleted from the list because of reports of pets getting sick and dying. How could this happen? Is there any update on the status of this information? It is hard to understand how this food could cause problems with the ingredients that are in it. PS The kittens love the food!!!

We had bought Dollar General and Walmart Beef and Chicken Jerky, Beneful, Purina One and Mighty Dog Canned Foods (Varities) and our Dog just was crazy digging his skin raw and his face raw. Over time we had him tested and in the end he went blind, suffered renal failure, got a heart murmur, had lumps under his fur, eyes always running, ears always infected, He scratched his ears raw. The Vet Hospital put him on Antibiotics and Steroids and he took them a long time. His white fur turned to black spots like a Dalmnation Dog. He wouldn't eat until I kept fooling him each day with his pills in all different kinds of foods. One day he just gave up.....went behind a chair and began to die. He was so ill and nothing and no amount of money could tell us what was wrong> The Vet gave him a blood test and said he had a bacterial infection but couldn't tell us why. OUr dog suffered months and months and on May 15, 2008 our beautiful Beagle Dog died at 9 years old. He wasn't ready to die. He was our best buddy and a very well tempered and loveable dog.........more than most people are these days! We still cry and will always cry for our best buddy named "ERNIE'. HIs nickname was Tinky! Sweetie, Baby Pup and nothing can replace our dog...no amount of money can do that! We never believed in putting our dogs to sleep (Had dogs all of our marriage of 41 years and still going.......but this sweet dog was suffering so badly for 3 days and we had to help him die with his dignity.......for dogs even have dignity in a dog's life. We don't know why he really died.......the WHY.......but since discovering this melamine food poisioning event from China........I know now that is why my dog was suffering and died slowly from these pet products that we never knew were tainted.....or we would never have given him so many treats, etc. and kept changing his dog food because of what we thought and were told were just allergies, but it wasn't.....He got a bacterial infection and it ate away at him until he died. I miss my baby pup.....my TINKY.....my BABY Ernie Michael. I am filing a claim against the Pet Companies.......that let's anything be put into our dog and cats food, just to get rich! How sick is that? May God have mercy on thier souls.......for it is so evil!

The thing that disturbs me most is that we have been feeding them this food for a while now. What if my dogs have been eating maggots!!!!! What can i do about this??

Hi I have 3 doge 2 male labs and 1 bordercollie mix, I also have 1 cat they are all over 5 years old. when the scare about the dog and cat food came out I was feeding all my animals soft cat food mixed with the hard food I started having problems with only my cat and 1 of my labs they were throwing up all the time and drinking and peeing alot. I even think the lab had a seasure 1 or 2 times in the house. I always fatten my dogs up because they are out side boys the 2 big labs. but this year I am just giving them extra dry dog food or real chicken or beef I would rather spend the money that way than having them in the vets offive again. I too have not heard from the dog comp. either even though I called them about 5 times in the last year or so. It's like they could not care if they killed our friends or our babies. If the lab. had died my son would of been devistated and I don't know what I would of done for him either. That's his buddy. I probibly would of sued for sure the low lives. thanks for reading this I'm still wondering what is really safe out there. I feed my cat either Ims or goodlife recipe indoor. and the dogs get purina dog chow. thanks again Sarah

I can't begin to describe the pain that I have, after having to put down a dog in Sept. of 2008, having one diagnosed with Addison's disease after having seizure-like activity and what appeared to be a stroke on two occasions. Now we have to have our second remaining dog checked for Addison's.

They all were fed Nutro Lite for 3 years, without a problem until the first quarter of 2008. Then it was one trip to the vets after another, with nothing discovered until our 8 year old Bouvier was so sick and diagnosed with lymphoma. It continues to be trip after trip to the vet with the other two, to try to diagnose what has happened.

I feel betrayed by the makers of Nutro.

We've never had this kind of problem with their products before, and never had such sick dogs.

I was feeding my dog his normal olroy complete nutrition and this batch on Jan 28th 2009 he threw up a few times and I know dogs do that sometimes, but then he threw up about 5 times in one day and the next day when I came home there was this brown rank liquid all over my tile. Like he had a combination very watery diarhhea and pee. As if all of the liquid had come out of his body. He is a stout 2 year old black lab mix. He was very lethargic and having difficulty walking. I could see his legs were cramping up. I could not afford to take him to the ER vet. I took him off all food for 1 1/2 days gave him only water and then slowly began to give him Beniful. I feel very upset. I called wal-mart and Mars the maufactur and no one has gotten back to me. Wal-mart said they didn't even know about the recall. I had to take the printed papers I got off the internet to show them. They said someone would contact me and no one has yet. I just want them to get this posionous food off their shelves. If my dog were any smaller I am certain he would have circumed to the food poision. Please Don't buy any Ol'ROY dog food!!!!!

I agree with Pam who made a comment about Chicken Soup ...catfood, only I have a comment about Chicken Soup..for dogs. I noticed on your review site you gave this dogfood high praises and a l0/l0. I bought two bags of it because I too was impressed with the ingredients. Now I noticed you have deleted it entirely from your list citing illnesses and deaths with this notice having a date of 2/l5/08. It is now Feb. of 2009 and I have never heard any negative things about this food at all. In fact on the Consumer Search site it lists it as one of the 4 best foods you can buy. What gives?

I have two Norwiegen Elkhouds that have both been eating Kibbles N Bits dog food. Both of our dogs have been sick, (one severely with seizures), refusing to eat, vomiting, diarrea, and off white platlet counts. We lost one of the this past friday to kidney/liver failure. The one we lost has now tested positive for Salmonella posioning. The other one hasnt, but has been on treatment for it. I have never seen Kibble's and Bits on a recall list. I just lost my 9 year old Sheltie after feeding a bag of Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice Formula. I had a bag that had different colored pieces of kibble. Some were very dark and some light. Also the dark pieces were sort of curled up as if it had been burned. Two other bags that I had purchased did not have these different colored pieces. I called the company, which never has a "live" person answer, always a recording which asks to leave a message. I did and received a call about 3 weeks later. I told her of the uneven colored and burned kibble and she sent me a bag with paid postage to send the sample of food in for testing. That was around February 7, 2009 and I still do not have any results of the testing. I have called several times and left more messages and they will not return my calls. I had both of my dogs, Shelties one 9 years and one 8 years. The 9 year old became sick almost immediately from eating the food and was taken off of it, taken to the vet and all kinds of tests were run including bloodwork 3 times. The 8 year old did not become sick immediately and I kept feeding the food but picking out the dark pieces. He became sick much later then my other boy. His illness much like the other one and at the vet with many tests and bloodwork done. The only thing that was different is that he died after being sick for 30 days. My vet wanted to do a necropsy and I should have let him but I was so distraught at losing him I just wanted to get him back home and lay him to rest along side his mother that I lost to the Nutro melamine food that killed her in 2007. I know I should have stopped feeding that food. It wasn't until much later that I found a difference in the kibble and he never appeared sick or feeling bad at all. Of course it could have been the Rimadyl I had to give him when his elbow became so swollen and he was in so much pain. I gave him 3 doses of the Rimadyl and from what I have read about that drug it should be taken off the market. I won't know which it was that killed him, but may have been the combination of both.

In Feb. 2009 I changed 1 of my cats food to Chicken Soup for Cat Lover's. It is now April 2009 and my cat seems to be dying. A healthy 13 year old male, took a sudden turn out of the blue. Bloodwork basically came back okay, except for hime being mildly anemic, WHY???? He is not eating, a few sips of water, and then throws that up as well. He was put on an antibiotic for perhaps a tooth problem. It's been just a few days on meds, and he had 1 good day, and now is worst than ever. Both cats were eating Whiskas Temptations as well, and now they both will not eat them. Has my boy been poisened? Where is this safe food list of yours???? Any help or input will be appreciated. Not sure if I want to put him through emergency procedures....:(

Thankyou so much for these comments. My cat Muffy died yesterday morning. His brother Snowball is very sick. About 3 weeks ago I purchased Advantage flea solution under 9 lbs. and Nature's Choice cat food at a local Pet Supermarket. They didn't like the food at all, and there were small fruit fly looking bugs that came out of the case when i unsealed it. I gave Snowy the flea treatment first and a few days later did Muffy. Snowy has stopped eating, has runny eyes and sneezing, vomiting, shaking his head a lot. A few days later Muffy has stopped eating, lost his balance, not going to the bathroom as much and both are lathargic. Muff was older and more frail than Snow, but still peppy. I didn't know for sure which foods were on the list, but now I see that I too am guilty of thinking I was giving them nutritional food when really I was poisoning my children. They may not be human, but they are definately my kids and there ought to be a law put into place so that the punishment for the crime is treated as murder, because that's exactly what is going on here. There are good veteranarians that will tell you the truth about it and there are bad vets that will hide it. I am slowly getting Snowy to eat again, have taken him off the opened container of Clavamox mixed by his assistant who for all I know wasn't trained properly. He's treating him for Upper respiratory infection although he has no fever. Please check to see your Vets rating, and for any complaints before it's to late for your babies. I don't know if it is the flea treatment or the food or from using the recalled food from last few years. Shame on this Industry for continuing to poison innocent animals. We've made them wealthy for it and now they should pay for our losses. It breaks my heart to know this is still going on.

If anyone knows the difference between Bayer Advantage Topical Solution and Advantage Once A Month Topical Treatment please email me kts@gmail.com

Susan keep up the great work you are doing, and let me know if I can help.

I have a Cocker Poodle mix she is 11 yrs old and was very healthy, she played like a puppy. She is also a very picky eater, we gave her the Beneful meal beef stew two weeks ago and she became sick, not thinking it was the food because she seams better the next day, we gave it to her again, and of course she was so sick this time we rushed her to the vet were she almost died after running evey test the vet still could not tells us what was wrong. Her blood count was so off that he gave her a blood transfushion, she spent 2 days in intensive care. We were able to bring her home and she seamed better until she ate the Beneful Meal (different Container) now she is struggling to live. Is there any reports on this dog food? where can I go to get answers?

my cat started having medical issues after feeding it whiskas temptations. Is this a common thing? I had to have her put to sleep today, due to a kidney infection the size of a golfball and anerexia. She stopped eating her normal food ever since i gave her the treats. What is in these and why did these problems occur?

I have been my GSD what I thought was a high quality dog food and it turned out to be poison. I used Canidae grain free salmon. My puppy became lethargic, started throwing up yellow bile, really small stools, his gums would bleed slightly when chewing on toys, and no energy at all. He wouldsometimes lay there and cry. I took him to the vet and got a clean bill of health, but I knew something was very wrong. He got to the point where he wouldn't touch his dog food, so I fed him boiled chicken and rice and he ate every bit. Next meal I mixed two cups chicken and rice and half a cup of his food and he wouldn't touch it. Didn't even try to eat around the dog.Red flag. I started researching Canidae dog food and happened to come across this site, http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/canidae.html. I couldn't believe it, hundreds of dogs dying and getting very sick because of this food, and it is rated 5 out of 6 stars on www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ I changed food no mixing the two, just small amounts of food and chicken and rice and within 24 hours he was a new dog. I cant believe I was killing my puppy. From now on my research for dog food goes much further than the ratings thjey are given. Too bad there isnt a web site that can totally imform us.

I have several cats and always fed them Friskies canned cat food along with dry. In less than a week I have lost 4 cats and one is in the vet. The first one I brought in the vet said he never saw anything like the amounts of toxins in this cat. All her organs just shut down and had to be put to sleep. After that I lost three more, all throwing up bright green saliva, just laying around hanging over the water and not eating. The last one is in the vet. My mom also had trouble with her cats throwing up and loose stool and she also feeds Friskies canned cat food. The vet said my first cat looked like it was poisoned-the cat NEVER went out. What is going on? Are we going to start this all over again? Anyone else having a problem?????

My cats have eaten the temptation treats and then my 1 1/2 yr old cat has been going down hill ever since.first vomiting and now diarhea. She was always hyper playing and wanting to curl up. She has stopped eating and won't drink water. I have to give it to her forcefully. My 2 mnth old kitten I'm not sure if she got affected she threw up 1 day 5 times and that was it. She hasn't thrown up after that. She has continued to eat and drink water. And she's starting to be playful again. I decided to do some research because my husband thought it may have been the treats being that they were perfectly healthy. The kitten we rescued from outside, she was in bad shape when we brought her in and nursed her back to health and now this. I have stopped giving them the treats and my older cat is still in bad shape. I have not yet taken her to the vets because we wouldn't have any money till Friday. No vets have been willing to take us in till we get money and this upsets me the most that I have to sit and watch my baby fade away. I have looked for at least some advice on at least settling my cats stomach, and no one helps just keep her hydrated they say. Then I have seen people using yogurt. My friend who lives in another state to check with her vet to see if it was ok to give her yogurt. The vet gave the go ahead as well as trying some butter. I gave her a little, no vomiting yet, but she still hasn't eaten. We will be giving her some yogurt and see if that helps her. I'm thinking of giving the same to my 2 mnth old kitten just in case. And now I'm not sure after reading all that's been going if I even want to take her to the vet. My husband wants to wait and see if she gets any better over night. If not then to the vet we go and see what they have to say. We can't afford all the test, but may depending on what the vet thinks it is. Thanks for the advice, if my cats pull through this, I plan on just making their food instead of buying the bags. At least I'll know I won't put poisons in my cats food. And at least I know it'll be cheaper as well.

I have been feeding 3 of my 4 dogs Nutro Ultra (now holistic) for about 4 years. The past week, I have had the three that eat this throwing up (the 2 yorkies sneak & eat the prescription food for older dog...so, they rarely eat this). But, my poodle mix became extremely sick...throwing up profusely! Has been in hospital, went straight from there to vets office for more care, on day 3, well, tomorrow will be day 4!!! I took the Nutro completly away from the yorkies, and no throw up at all..they are fine. Called the company, because I did find recalls, today, I can't find it.

They were going to "overnight" me a kit to test the food, etc. Well, it isn't here. I called the pet store I purchase from and they knew nothing about any of the Nutro's recalls!

I want to know if anyone else has had any problems with this? It is the dry, small adult Nutro Ultra food. I am praying my little guy will survive this. I don't know what kind of food to feed them! We live in the South, which, even with recalls, it takes awhile for information to get to us...for some reason! Thanks, God bless....
