There have been no Official Pet Food Recalls since the historical pet food recalls that began in March 2007. The 2007 Pet Food Recalls ended in November 2007.
Why do cats and dogs continue to show signs of ingesting contaminated pet food, become sick, and die? Just as they did during the Pet Food Recall one year after the Pet Food Recall began?
I am going to begin this article with a bit of information about how the Pet Food Recall began and what happened during the Pet Food Recall of 2007.
Cats were first affected by the contaminated pet foods. Cats and Dogs which were fed a diet of contaminated pet foods began showing signs of eating a toxic menu:
Severe Signs:
- Cats and Dogs drank extra amounts of water
- refused to eat contaminated pet foods
- passed blood in the urine and stools
- vomited
- became weak
- suffered seizures
- renal failure (kidneys shut down)
Few lived. Most died.
Lesser signs of eating contaminated pet foods include:
- skin irritations
- excessive itching and scratching
- flaky skin
- fleas
- fever
- ear infections
- hair loss
- dental disease
- bad breath
- ulcers on the skin
- hot spots on the skin
- tumors
- weight gain
- enlarge kidneys
- enlarged liver
- paw licking
- biting at the tail area
- sore and splayed feet
- softened nails
- excessive nail growth
- matted hair
- displeasing temperament
- chronic digestive problems
- bloat
- seizures
- heart disease
- hyperthyroidism
- blindness
- deafness
- death
The Pet Food Recall of 2007 has come and gone. Date is one year later. I, as a pet groomer and publisher, receive dozens of telephone calls, emails, and comments every day, informing me of pets still suffering from the same symptoms as the pets did during the Pet Food Recall. Pets are showing signs of eating contaminated pet foods. No additional information has been provided by the pet food companies as to why our pets are suffering and dying just as they did during the Pet Food Recall.
I do not expect we will be seeing any contaminated pet food information provided by the pet food companies or their marketers. Should a pet food company decided to join in a Pet Food Recall the pet food company would be accepting responsibility for providing contaminated pet food to our pets. Financially, accepting fault would be a very costly move.
It is my intention to provide information about the Pet Food Recall and the effects of eating contaminated pet foods (still on the market today) through weekly publications on this site. I will link all my articles back to this page for easy access. Check back every Sunday for the most recent publication. I have a full time job so I have responsibility to my work. I produce this site in my free time. The information about the Pet Food Recall of 2007 and the contaminated pet foods still on the market is quite extensive. Given these two factors I am able to produce Pet Food Recall Information pages only weekly.
Please feel fee to drop a comment on these pages or via my email. I check both daily.

Barbara,
Remove all corn, wheat, and soy from your cat's diet ASAP! Try a little bit of yogart to settle his stomach. Offer as much water as possible and a pet food without corn, wheat, or soy.
Please keep me informed.

I just received an email about Nutro dog food recall. I called my Vet, they had not heard anything. I checked with Petsmart, where I buy Nutro for 5 dogs and 1 cat. They did not know anything about a new recall. One of the managers said with all the recalls last year, Purina was the only brand that did not get recalled. I have bought Natural Choice with chicken meal, rice and oatmeal for sensitive stomachs for years. I am really upset! I bought Purina One Lamb & Rice formula for the dogs & Purina Cat Inside formula . None of them are real happy. Two of them are eating very little. Three dogs & cat are mine and 2 dogs are fosters. I have told so many people about Nutro because it was preserved with Vit. E and very natural products. Can you trust any of the brands?
Dianne,
I would like to see a copy of that email. Would you send it to me to AskSusanPeters@hotmail.com , please.

I just put my springer spaniel to sleep Friday March 15,2008 due to kindey and liver failure. I was feeding Pedigree small chuncks, I have 3 other dogs and I found this site and I will be going to the store to buy a safer brand of dog food also my cats are eating Special Kitty from Walmart and that will be replaced. I can't prove it was the dog from now that I had her cremated but with all these letters I'm sure it was. I miss my beloved pet and I hope someone pays for this and all the other people that have lost a beloved pet or are going threw treatments to make them better. Thanks for your site and God Bless you for all the hard work your doing to keep us all informed on the pet food business. Hugs, Kathy
Kathy,
Thank you for your kind words. I'm very sorry about your Springer, they are wonderful pets. I own a grooming shop and I really enjoy working with the Springers.

I have lost a Siamese cat, Boxer dog and my American Bulldog was affected ... but, hope no damage.
I had a conversation with the pet food company and they were going to reimburse me for the "living" pets vet bills in 2007 and now in 2008, I am getting no response from them.
This is very confusing. They are responsibile for murder and chose to stop communication.

Patricia,
This is very disturbing. I was in court Friday with 23 pet food companies and they seemed to be very confused as to why we would care that their products are killing our pets.
These pet food companies know that corn, wheat, and soy will kill cats and dogs and cause great harm before it kills them. They don't care if it kills the pets as long as the grains provide the protein needed to produce the food (pets are meat eaters and should have the protein gained by beef, chicken, etc. - not toxic grains).

I have several dogs with red sores and skin on bellies and legs-it is gooey and makes them feel hot to the touch. It also causes thick dry callouses on feet and elbows-is this a dog food allergy? They are collies which are sometimes sensitive to a lot of things-they are related.
Carol,
What you have described is what we see every day in the grooming salon. Take the grains out of the diet and the hair will return, the coat will shine, flaky skin will go away, the mottled skin will turn natual color, the paw licking will end, the butt biting and scratching will stop, fever will reduce, head shaking will stop - all within 6 weeks or sooner.

So no rice in the food at all, not even Brown rice?

My cat, Black Velvet started getting sick around the 10 of February. He started throwing up constantly. I thought it was fur balls at first, as he kept his appetite. Then he started upchucking mainly water with the cat food in it , which had bright (almost glowing colors in it (red, green, etc) looking undigested. I took him to vet on the 12th, they checked him for everything, exrayed and gave enemas, checked his blood for everything, and found nothing. I left him there till Friday. They said he was just curled up and resting, eating and seemed fine, when I called about picking him up. We got him home, and he started eating, but then the vomiting w/bright cat food again. By the 18th/19th, he stopped eating and is just laying around. During this time I thought about the new type of cat food I had bought about a week or so before this all started, FRISKIES SIGNATURE BLEND. I offered him another kind of food, he still isn't eating, or drinking and has nothing to vomit ! What can I do? I had no idea that it could be connected to a cat food, the vet didn't ask what he was eating, Only gave me a bill close to $400. Help, what can I do?
